Safety Advisor
Position Description

Generation Projects is the group within ESB Engineering and Major Projects (EMP) whose contribution is to efficiently deliver the generation and renewable capital infrastructure projects required to meet these goals.
The Generation Projects Safety Specialist will work in conjunction with the EMP Safety Team and Generation Projects delivery teams to ensure that the business is fully compliant with legislation and ESB requirements and that contractors are operating to the highest standards to ensure the safe delivery of our projects.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Implementation and Compliance - Ensure full implementation of EMP and ESB Generation & Trading (G&T) safety requirements, including ISO 45001 standards, across all project sites.

Contractor Oversight and Assurance - Conduct safety assurance audits, review contractor safety documentation and procedures, and support procurement processes related to contractor safety management.

Safety Leadership and Culture - Promote a proactive safety culture among project teams and contractors through engagement, leadership, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Incident Management and Investigation - Lead and participate in investigations of incidents and near misses, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented.

Training and Knowledge Sharing - Deliver safety training and develop learning forums for internal teams and contractors to enhance safety awareness and competence including completing competency assessments.

Legislative Monitoring and Advisory - Stay informed of changes in safety and health legislation, advising management on compliance actions and ensuring client responsibilities are fulfilled.

Reporting and Continuous Improvement - Compile and analyse safety performance data, report trends to Safety, Health and Envionrment (SHE) and Project Managers, and identify best practices and emerging safety trends.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
-
Level 8 Qualification in Health and Safety.

Minimum of 5 years Health & Safety experience within the construction industry on large scale projects.

Knowledge of Safety and Health legislation, codes of practice and standards.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Excellent influencing, leadership, stakeholder management and communication skills

Ability to work on one’s own initiative
- Full, clean driver's licence.
Desirable
-
Experience and knowledge of working on power generation construction.
-
ISO 45001 safety auditor training.

Environmental experience/qualification.
Location
This position will be based in ESB’s offices in One Dublin Airport Central, Dublin Airport, Dublin. The role will require travel throughout Ireland.
ESB is committed to smart working – combining digital tools with a culture of trust and empowerment to enable flexible ways of working. The successful candidate may work flexibly within their jurisdiction with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration on at least two anchor days per week. All smart working arrangements are subject to manager approval and ongoing review, based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the individual.

The role will report to the Safety, Health & Environment Manager, Generation Projects EMP, P&S.

Salary
€59,900 - €70,500 per annum (depending on experience)
