 Position Description

 

ESB is a purpose led company striving to create a brighter future for the customers and communities we serve, leading the transition to reliable, affordable, low-carbon energy.  Network Projects is the group within ESB Engineering and Major Projects whose contribution is to efficiently deliver ESB Network major capital infrastructure projects and engineering solutions required to meet these goals.  

 

The Safety Specialist will work in conjunction with the EMP Safety Team and Network Projects delivery teams to ensure that the business is fully compliant with legislation and ESB/ESB Network requirements and that Contractors are operating to the highest standards on site to ensure the safe delivery of ESB Networks major capital programme on Substation, Cable & OHL projects.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Work closely with project management staff & contractors to ensure EMP & ESB Network Safety requirements are implemented in full  
  • Supports project development teams with advice and assistance on safety and health and environmental issues.  
  • Carry out safety assurance audits on contractors to ensure that Legislative and ESB’s standards are being fully implemented on site 
  • Promoting a culture of safety awareness with project management staff and contractors working on EMP projects 
  • Participate and lead incident and near miss investigations on projects  
  • Develop and run safety learning forums for internal project management teams and externally with contractors 
  • Review of contractor safety documentation and procedures 
  • Delivering safety training as required 
  • Support procurement processes in relation to Contractor Safety Management 
  • Cooperates in the implementation and maintenance of the EMP Safety Management System (ISO 45001).  
  • Aware of changes to relevant safety and health legislation and advises management and staff on required changes or actions to address legislative compliance.  
  • Compiles project statistics and reports back to the SHE Manager and Project Managers on trends 
  • Identifies areas of best practice and emerging trends in the field of safety and health and advises management on how best to address such issues.  
  • Ensures that Client Responsibilities are fulfilled in accordance with the legislation 

 

 

 Experience and Qualifications  

 

Essential

 

  • Minimum of 5 years Health & Safety experience within the construction industry on large scale projects  
  • Level 7 Qualification in Health & Safety
  • Knowledge of Safety and Health legislation, codes of practice and standards  
  • Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills  
  • Excellent influencing, leadership, stakeholder management and communication skills  
  • Ability to work on one’s own initiative  

 

Desirable

 

  • Experience and Knowledge of working on utility type projects in the electricity market 
  • Experience supporting project teams on the development and construction of large-scale electrical transmission assets  
  • HV cables experience is particularly desirable 
  • Safety auditor training  
  • ISO45001 experience 
  • Environmental experience/qualification 

 

 

Location

 

This position will be based in One Dublin Airport Central, Dublin Airport. The role will also require some travel.

The successful candidate may work flexibly within their jurisdiction with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration on at least one anchor day per week. The role will report to the Safety Health & Environment Manager, Network Projects EMP, P&S

Salary 

 

€55,500 - €65,500 depending on experience.
