Position Description

 

ESB is leading Ireland’s transition to Net Zero by 2040, delivering reliable and affordable energy through sustained investment in low‑carbon generation and resilient infrastructure. Finance Operations plays a critical role in this transition, ensuring strong financial control, accurate reporting and robust governance to support effective decision‑making across the business.

 

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Senior Accountant to join Finance Operations. The successful candidate will bring strong technical accounting expertise, sound professional judgement, and a proactive approach to process improvement and stakeholder engagement. Working closely with internal stakeholders, the Senior Accountant will help ensure financial processes are efficient, compliant, and continuously improving in a complex and evolving operating environment.

 

This position offers the successful candidates the opportunity to work as part of a large finance team. Key priorities for Finance Operations are the delivery of best practice finance processes, digitalisation, delivering business requirements and continued staff development. 

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Period close, consolidation and reconciliation activities at Group and Business Unit level 
  • Co-ordination of the annual statutory audit process, engagement with external auditors and delivery of outputs to key internal and external stakeholders as required 
  • Delivery of continuous improvement initiatives and various projects within the Accounting & Reporting function 
  • Monitoring accounting (International Financial Reporting Standards) (IFRS), technical and commercial developments and advising on their impact on the financial close of the Group 
  • Responsibility for overseeing and reviewing accounting and reporting processes, including ensuring that relevant record to report controls are operating effectively 
  • Overseeing the work of accountants on the team
  • Address ad hoc queries and decision support requests

 

 

Experience and Qualifications

 

Essential

  • A professional accountancy qualification (ACA, CIMA, ACCA) or equivalent with at least 2 years post qualification experience 
  • High level of accounting competency and strong analytical skills 
  • Highly motivated – able to work on own initiative and as part of a team 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Strong IT skills 
  • Strong understanding of financial systems and processes

 

 

Location

 

This position will be based in ESB’s Head Office at Fitzwilliam 27, Dublin 2

 

Smart Working at ESB is designed to make ‘in-person’ time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful candidate may work flexibly within the jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week. All Smart Working arrangements are subject to regular review based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the business.

Salary

 

€59,900 - €70,500 per annum, depending on experience.
