Senior Digital Developer - Front/ BackEnd

Application Development is responsible for the design, build and implementation of quality software products that enable the transformation of ESB to a world class Digital Utility. Our teams work across many different types of delivery structures and delivery methods e.g., Scrum, Kanban and Waterfall.


In Application Development we get exposure to the latest trends in software and technology development using Microsoft Azure technology to build new Cloud based business services, Azure DevOps to enable the rapid deployment of new business services and Azure API-M to build our integration points across internal and external business services.


Our software development stack continues to evolve and currently we build new solutions across multiple development frameworks and technology using .Net/C#, React JS, Bootstrap/JQuery, Java and SAP Fiori / SAP ABAP.


Position Description 

Working within our large Application Development team, you will be part of a highly motivated and skilled team of IT Professionals working to achieve maximum value for our customers and all our IT investments across a range of technologies.  


This role will on the one hand involve working closely with the Solution Architecture and Design Team to agree standards and architectures but also implementing these architectures and ensuring that all projects built using the digital platform conform to these standards. 


Key Responsibilities 

The successful candidate will report to a Team Lead within the Application Development team and be responsible for developing products for ESB’s Digital Platform architecture which includes the following components:- 


  • .NET Web Applications (MVC and Web API) 
  • Component Driven development 
  • Frontend applications. 
  • Rich animations and Visualisations 
  • Responsive UI Design 
  • Customer Experience driven products 
  • Web Services using RESTful APIs 
  • Use of Microsoft Azure for Platform as a Service components 
  • Use of Microsoft Visual Studio Team Services / Azure DevOps for Agile Development 


The role will be frontend development with a focus on product design to deliver modern Customer experience for our business.    


This role will be working with on-premise applications and cloud solutions using Microsoft Azure. 


Knowledge, Skills and Experience 


  • At least 7 years' working experience in Frontend development and Javascript

  • At least 5 years' working experience in developing Frontend component based, cross platform applications

  • Experience of software development lifecycle, including solution design, development and release management

  • IT Degree or similar qualification

  • Experience with unit testing, source control(Git), and good software engineering practices

  • Familiarity of securing websites and implementing secure, robust code

  • Understanding and experience in delivering products that are level 2 accessible

  • Understanding of privacy by design for frontend development

  • Ability to take high level tasks, plan steps to implement them, and complete those steps independently 

  • A proven track record of excellent stakeholder management skills 

  • Strong communication skills



  • Use of Agile software development ideally using SCRUM methodology 

  • Use of Microsoft Azure Platform as a Service  

  • A good working knowledge of javascript and frameworks such as react

  • A good working knowledge of HTML 5 and CSS3 

  • A good working knowledge of NPM, Node 

  • Use of Microsoft Azure DevOps 


Above all, you must be innovative in your approach and be able to demonstrate your ability to actively contribute to a team that delivers results. 



  • Third level qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience is essential  



Base Location: Limerick or Fitzwilliam 27, ESB’s new Head Office, Dublin (Smart/Remote Working suitable) .

The successful candidate may combine remote / smart working within the jurisdiction (Republic of Ireland), with attendance at base for in-person collaboration, the frequency of which is agreed with the manager and subject to ongoing review.

The successful candidate will report to a Team Lead within the Application Development team, IT Delivery

€43,000 -€60,000 per annum
