We are looking for an Electrical or Civil Engineer with at least 5 years experience to provide technical expertise in all aspects of a project conception through to contract tender award (if applicable) for HV Substation and HV Cable projects. You will also be involved with concept review, contract management, training, development and interfacing with other design specialists and clients.

 

In support of ESB’s strategic objectives of decarbonising electricity, building resilient infrastructure and empowering clients, you will concentrate on reviewing the feasibility of design concepts and propose contract delivery strategies for a project from the earliest stages.  

 

Key Responsibilities

The role will also include some/all the following work: 

  • Owning the end project deliverables during the Project Development phase, in particular business case success measures including time, cost, scope & quality whilst acting as the PSDP for this phase of the project.  
  • Developing the Project Brief as set out by Network Assets and/or EirGrid into a viable Project Management Plan ready to transition from Project Development to Project Delivery stage.  
  • Delivering for approval the Conceptual Physical Designs, Scope of Works, Project Costs and Project Management Plans to agreed target timelines.  
  • For EPC and D&B projects, aid the development of the In & Out Of Scope, Interface Schedule and other relevant documents, in conjunction with the Project Delivery team and support the procurement process for the project.  
  • Manage the overall project deliverables for all stakeholders, coordinating inputs with the relevant stakeholders at project development stage

 

The role will include the following work:

 

  • Delivering technical and procurement documentation for the inclusion in Procurement Enquiries for the EPC and D&B delivery of HV Substation and HV Cable projects to agreed project timelines.
  • Managing all technical inputs and acting as the single point of contact for ESB Networks Procurement throughout the course of the Procurement Process., including the production of Tender Evaluation reports.
  • Deliver constructability appraisals for inclusion in the project scope to agreed target timelines and deliver appraisals of Feasibility Studies and Site Suitability Layouts for future pipeline projects. 
  • Development of procedural documents to document processes, promoting efficiency within our work processes and ensuring a high-quality delivery of workload across the group.
  • Commercial Management of design time and expenditure on projects, also ensuring our contracting strategies focuses on efficiency and deliverability to maximise the overall project pipeline.

 

Experience and Qualifications

Essential

  • Third level qualification or appropriate experience
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in HV Substation or HV Cable projects or Construction Contract Procurement/Management.
  • An electrical or civil understanding of substation electrical design and construction principles or HV Cable principles.
  • An understanding of construction contracts
  • A strong work ethic with a clear focus on delivery to EMPs safety, time, quality and cost objectives.
  • The demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities and stakeholders.
  • A proven track record of success and a flexible approach to work, especially where necessary to delivery excellent customer service.

 

Desirable

  • A good understanding of procurement processes and FIDIC contract management
  • A good understanding of commercial issues and design issues on construction projects
  • PSDP Competency or CDMC equivalent.   

 

Location

This position will be based in the ESB EMP offices in either Dublin or Cork but the role may require a certain amount of travel within Ireland.

Salary

€59,000 - €70,000
