Senior Engineer, Network Management System
Role Description
The NMS Senior Engineer will be responsible for supporting and maintaining the NMS and supporting the delivery of new projects required to meet the strategic objectives of the DMSO. This will include the development of the NMS to support the constantly evolving needs of the Operations function and the wider ESB Networks business. They will be responsible for liaising with business users to identify functional requirements and will develop the role of NMS expert in to help with the requirements gathering, testing and rollout of application upgrades.
- Support and maintain 24x7 operation of the NMS for the ESB Networks and the National Distribution Control Centre.
- Provide support to ensure the smooth roll out and reliable operation of the NMS.
- Contribute and support the delivery of new projects required to meet the strategic objectives of the DMSO and Operations and other cross-functional teams which includes workshops, assessment, planning, implementation and testing.
- Maintain and keep the network model up-to-date with daily quality audits and issue resolution.
- Support system maintenance activities including product upgrades, security patch upgrades and site switch activities.
- Develop HV standard configuration for generation and demand customers on the NMS and the associated operational map.
- Develop a standardised approach with the NDCC in the utilisation of the NMS identifying improvements with the operational map.
- Monitor and support the different interfaces to seamlessly integrate with NMS system and handle issue resolution.
- Maintain existing reporting and dashboards and the develop new reports and dashboards required by business users.
- Support the business during critical service interruptions and major weather events.
- Development and implementation of the NMS to meet ESB Networks' overall strategy for the safe management and operation of the distribution system.
- Ensure compliance with industry and legislative regulations, standards, and safety protocols.
- Support other parts of the business and work closely with stakeholders to understand and their requirements and system issues.
- Stakeholder management with internal business units third parties and system vendors. Work with the NMS Vendor to keep the system up-to-date and ensure quality end-to-end service to our customers, including addressing any critical incidents and defect resolution.
- Develop and deliver training programmes for system users ensuring effective use of the of the NMS.
- Develop and maintain NMS training documents, job aids and support documents.
- Develop functional specifications, procedures and process for the operation of the NMS.
- Contribute to ESB Networks strategy in the deployment of technologies for enhancing quality of service to customers.
- System risk management progression across the NMS, fault, and operational incident investigation.
- Contribute to the development of advanced NMS and DMS applications.
- Provide support to the OT Cybersecurity Manager.
- Provide operational knowledge and guidance of NMS to the wider DMSO team.
- Supervise and mentor junior team member, fostering collaboration and skill development.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Minimum of 5 years relevant experience.
- 3rd Level Engineering qualification
- Proven ability to deliver on the “key responsibilities” outlined above.
- Proven knowledge and experience working in different components of NMS systems including OMS, DMS, network operations and model management.
- Knowledge and experience in electrical HV and MV networks.
- Understanding of mission-critical OT systems
- Experience in testing OT systems and applications.
- A strong work ethic with a clear focus on delivery to ESB Networks safety, time, quality and cost objectives.
- The demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
- Self starter with ability to manage own work and support others within project team.
- The ability to technically mentor junior team members.
- A flexible approach to work, especially where necessary to deliver excellent customer service.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication and report writing skills.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Knowledge and experience in electrical HV and MV networks.
- Knowledge in handling Unix servers
- Knowledge on reporting and data warehousing
- Knowledge OT infrastructure and network architecture
- Familiarity with Unix, Linux or similar Operating Systems.
- Experience of Oracle Network Management System is preferred.

Salary
€55,000 to €65,000 per annum
