Join the Protection, Automation and Control Systems team in Transmission and Distribution Engineering (TDE) in ESB Engineering and Major Projects. We are responsible for the delivering services including specification, tender evaluation, design and testing of protection and control devices for our various national and international stakeholders. The Senior Distribution Protection Engineer will be responsible for the delivery of protection solutions for various projects at a range of voltages from 10kV to 38kV.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Distribution Protection Engineer is required to:
- Provide application engineering and elementary design across a range of distribution protection relays.
- Create distribution network protection relay acceptance test plans and procedures.
- Develop technical specifications, technical schedules, price schedules and other documents required for distribution protection relay tender enquiries, and review submitted tenders.
- Provide specialised technical expertise, knowledge and support to all stakeholders.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
- A minimum of five years’ experience in either substation secondary systems design, protection and/or control application engineering, protection commissioning or protection studies, with a background in the specification, numerical and schematic design and testing of distribution protection schemes and devices.
- A strong work ethic with a clear focus on delivery to safety, time, quality, and cost objectives.
- Strong commercial and project management capability.
- The ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
- A flexible approach to work, especially where necessary to deliver excellent customer service.
- Excellent communication and report writing skills.
- A proven track record of success contributing to the training and development of technical professionals.
Qualifications
Essential
- A minimum of a Level 8 (NFQ) qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience.
Location
This role is based in either E&MP Dublin/ Cork offices but travel to project locations as required is a key requirement of the role.

Salary:
€57,950 to €68,177
Reporting to
Reporting to the PACS Team Leader, Transmission and Distribution Engineering.
