Position Description 

Group Internal Audit (GIA) is an independent, objective assurance and advisory function charged with reviewing company activities across all areas within ESB Group, as a service to the Board and management. 

  

The person appointed to this role will have a functional reporting line to the Group Internal Auditor. 

  

The function supports the organisation in accomplishing its objectives through audits and other significant investigations, by examining and reporting on the management of risk, the adequacy of internal control and governance processes, and on the achievement of proper, efficient, and effective use of resources. 

  

As an Internal Audit Manager you will play a key leadership role in the achievement of our core purpose of delivering a brighter future; creating and connecting sustainable, reliable, and affordable energy and supporting the customers and communities we serve to achieve net zero.  This role is key to ensuring that our company is trusted in line with our values by all stakeholders including the Board, employees, and all external stakeholders.  To achieve this, you will be responsible for creating a strong, values based and inclusive culture, embracing digital opportunities, enabling collaboration and driving innovation whilst leveraging people capability and talent. 

 

 

Key Responsibilities  

  • Provide independent assurance to the Board and management on governance, management of risk and the adequacy of internal control, through development and implementation of an annual risk based internal audit plan addressing key strategic and operational risks; 

  • Manage and support a multidisciplinary audit team and ensure team are motivated and engaged while delivering a challenging audit plan; 

  • Ensure the GIA function adds value to the organisation by performing advisory and consulting services, without prejudice to assurance responsibilities; 

  • Ensure appropriate reporting to key stakeholders including the Audit & Risk Committee, ExCo and Senior Management on audit results, performance relative to the internal audit plan, GIA KPIs, results of external assessments of the function and follow up on implementation of audit actions; 

  • Ensure the function operates effectively and in conformance with the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing and best practice quality standards; and 

  • Support the development of appropriate structures, skills and competence within the function including access to specialist skills and best practice via external co-source services.

Experience & Qualifications 

  • A professional accounting qualification or equivalent. 

  • Proven track record of operating at a senior level and delivering complex assignments.  

  • Experience in internal audit, risk management or related fields is desirable.  

  • Engineering or utility experience is desirable.

This position will be based in ESB Head Office, 27 Fitzwilliam Street Lower.
