Position Description

The Internal Engagement and Communications Senior Manager is a pivotal leadership role within ESB, reporting directly to the Head of HR Strategy and Change. This position is designed for a dynamic and strategic leader who will spearhead the development and execution of innovative internal communication strategies. The successful candidate will play a critical role in enhancing employee experience and engagement, fostering a positive organisational culture, and supporting the delivery of the ESB’s Net Zero Strategy by ensuring that employees are informed, motivated, and aligned with the company's purpose and goals. 

As a member of the senior leadership team, the successful candidate will ensure effective communication across all levels of the organisation. This role requires enhancing and leveraging communications channels and innovative approaches to keep employees informed, motivated, and aligned with ESB’s purpose and values. The ideal candidate will be a high-calibre professional with a proven track record in internal communications and employee engagement, leading a team of communications specialists, capable of driving transformative change and delivering measurable results. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Strategic Planning: Lead the creation and execution of internal communication strategies to enhance employee experience and engagement and align with ESB’s Net Zero Strategy.  

  • Strategy Activation: Review and transform how internal communications strategies are consistently activated and delivered across ESB’s business units 

  • Innovation: Lead efforts to stay updated with the latest trends in internal communications and thought leadership, incorporating best practices and new technologies into ESB’s communication strategy.  

  • Employee Engagement: Ensure effective engagement measurement mechanisms are in place to monitor employee experience and engagement, develop and execute high-impact initiatives to boost employee morale, recognition and connection with ESB’s purpose and values. 

  • Feedback Mechanisms: Establish and manage channels for employee feedback, ensuring that insights are gathered, analysed, and acted upon to improve communication, experience and engagement. 

  • Measurement and Analytics: Drive the utilisation of data analytics to measure the effectiveness of communication strategies and make data-driven improvements.  

  • Change Management: Lead and support organisational change initiatives through effective communication plans that address employee concerns, promote buy-in, and facilitate smooth transitions 

  • Team Leadership: Lead and inspire a team of engagement and communications specialists, along with an events specialist. Provide strategic guidance, mentorship, and performance management to foster a high-performing team. 

  • Crisis Communication: Lead the development and execution of comprehensive crisis communication plans, ensuring timely, accurate, and effective channels for information dissemination during critical situations 

  • Stakeholder Management: Build, maintain, and nurture strong relationships with key stakeholders across the organization to ensure alignment, collaboration, and support for communication initiatives. 

  • Direct Engagement Model: Lead the development of a direct engagement model that fosters positive employee relations and an inclusive culture. 

  • Brand Ambassadorship: Act as a brand ambassador, ensure that internal communications reflect ESB’s values, culture, and strategic priorities. 

  • Budget Management: Oversee the internal communications budget, ensure efficient allocation of resources and cost-effective execution of initiatives 

  • Vendor Management 

  • Event Management: Oversee the planning and execution of internal events, such as town halls, employee forums, and recognition ceremonies, to foster a sense of community and engagement.

  • Strong people leadership skills, growing and developing high performing team that delivers results  

  • Strong strategic thinking and planning abilities. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Proficiency in multimedia content creation and digital communication tools. 

  • Ability to analyse data and metrics to inform decision-making. 

  • Experience in leading transformational change and developing crisis communication. 

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional teams. 

  • Innovative mindset with a passion for continuous improvement. 

  • High level of emotional intelligence and cultural awareness. 

  • Ability to adapt and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. 

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills  

 

Education

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.  

 

Experience:

Minimum of 10 years of experience in internal communications, employee experience, employee engagement, or related roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership position.

 

Location 

This position is based in ESB Head Office, 27 Fitzwilliam Street Lower, Dublin 2.
