Senior Professional Civil Engineer

The Senior Civil or Structural Engineer will play a key role in the delivery of engineering projects for ESB. This role involves close collaboration with design teams, ESB partners, and Contractors to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities

Lead design delivery for infrastructure projects design teams, acting as the lead designer within a multidisciplinary project team from feasibility stage through detailed design.

Provide specialist civil engineering guidance on design, optioneering, constructability, interfaces and cost / schedule decisions.

Lead engagement with internal and external stakeholders to progress projects through all lifecycle stages and governance gates – from concept stage through to construction.

Manage engineering work packages, including scoping, tendering, evaluations, contract award support and construction‑phase input.

Ensure design deliverables meet required programme, quality and technical standards.

Lead design reviews, ensuring compliance with ESB standards, contract requirements, constructability, and safety‑in‑design obligations.

Mentor junior engineers and promote a high‑performing, knowledge‑sharing design culture.

Promote and actively participate in maintaining a strong safety culture, ensuring safety is embedded in design and throughout project delivery.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
-
Level 8 Engineering Degree or equivalent.
-
Minimum 5 years of relevant civil and / or structural engineering experience.

High level of specialist expertise and strong technical capability in civil or structural engineering.

Proven ability to manage significant projects or key aspects of projects.

Strong commercial and project management skills.
-
Strong safety awareness and communication skills.
-
Valid driver's license for ROI, access to a car, and flexibility to travel nationwide.
Desirable
-
Chartered status or working towards it in a recognised professional institution.

Experience in utility projects.

Familiarity with FIDIC Conditions of Contract or similar.

Experience in performing the role of designer and / or PSDP on projects.
Location
This position will be based in ESB E&MP’s Offices in Dublin.

The successful candidate may work flexibly within their jurisdiction with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration on at least two anchor days per week. All smart working arrangements are subject to manager approval and ongoing review, based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the individual.

Salary
€59,000 - €70,000 per annum
