Join our dedicated team where we provide specialist electrical engineering services in the Planning and Development of High Voltage Transmission and Distribution Assets for the Networks Business. The team specialises in; 

Conceptual and Detailed Engineering Design  

Design Safety Management. 

Project Scoping, Programming and Commercial Management. 

 

The Senior Substation Engineer will be required to have strong project management and technical design background, detailed knowledge of internal safety procedures and excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

Responsibilities will cover the items below:  

 

The key responsibility of the role is to provide high quality designs,  safety coordination and act as the Lead Engineer on a diverse range of electricity transmission and distribution development projects. This includes: 

  • Overall responsibility for leading and delivering substation designs, design meetings and all programme deliverable, budgetary and quality requirements 

  • Providing technical support to colleagues in the area of substation design, meetings and ensuring the verification of designs issued within the group 

  • Management and coordination of technical, commercial and financial aspects of the project with all internal and external stakeholders  

  • Overall responsibility for safety as Project Supervisor Design Stage (PSDP). Preparation & review of design risk assessments and project H&S plans for design & construction teams   

  • A strong work ethic with a clear focus on delivering results within a tight time frame whilst ensuring the safety and quality of the project is not impacted 

  • The ability to manage and coordinate inputs from a range of engineering disciplines and key stakeholders, to act as the Lead Engineer on a number of projects. 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

We are looking for the following skills; 

 

Essential 

  • 5 years' plus relevant experience in a wide range of substation design including transmission and distribution substations. 

  • A strong understanding of all elements of substation tendering and tender evaluations, scoping, planning, design, costing, construction and commissioning 

  • Strong project management and contract management skills and knowledge  

  • Experience in control & protection systems, auxiliary power systems (AC/DC), power transformers and or reactors. 

  • Full drivers licence and access to a car. 

  • Understanding and experience of the PSDP/CDMC processes. 

  • The demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities. 

 

Desirable 

It is desirable that the candidate has achieved the following: 

 

PSDP Competency (or CDMC equivalent). 

 

 

Qualifications 

 

Essential 

Either level 8 in Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience is essential 

 

Location

The successful candidate may combine remote / smart working within the jurisdiction, with attendance at base for in-person collaboration, on at least two days per week.  

  

This role is based in the ESB E&MP Dublin or Cork office but regular travel to project locations as required is a key requirement of the role.

Senior Team leader, HV Substation Delivery, Networks Engineering, ESB Engineering and Major Projects.

Salary 

€59,000 to €70,000 per annum
