Position Description  

 

The Onshore Renewable Electrical team manages the electrical scope of ESB’s Solar, Onshore Wind, and Battery Energy Storage System Generation projects. The team plays a crucial role in helping ESB achieves its Net Zero by 2040 strategy and is responsible for the electrical works throughout the concept, development, construction, energisation, and handover phases. This includes delivering High Voltage Substations, Grid Connections, Collector Systems, and Renewable Technologies through Design and Build (D&B) and Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) contracts. The team provides Lead Electrical Engineering and handles Preliminary Designs, Specification Preparation, Tendering, Design reviews, Owner’s Engineering, Contract Management, and Site Supervision.

 

In support of ESB’s strategic objectives of decarbonising electricity, building resilient infrastructure and empowering client, the Senior Electrical Engineer will serve as Lead Electrical Engineer for renewable projects. They will lead and collaborate with a highly skilled and motivated team, while also engaging with clients, contractors, OEMs, colleagues, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful completion of projects.

 

 

Key Responsibilities  

 

The Senior Electrical Engineer’s key responsibilities include delivering high-level engineering, managing projects and contracts, and on-site supervision of contractors on renewable and energy storage projects. This role also involves establishing and maintaining high safety standards in all aspects of the work. Responsibilities include the following.

  • Conduct project feasibility assessments including technical due diligence, concept designs and budgetary pricing.
  • Prepare and update technical specifications and designs and other documents required to complete tender enquiry documentation, against which tenderers will submit proposals
  • Review and critically evaluate tenderers’ submissions
  • Administer D&B or EPC electrical contracts
  • Oversee Health and Safety. Prepare and review project health and safety documentation.
  • Manage contractors and review their design submissions to ensure they meet functional specifications, outline designs, and generic standards.
  • Inspect plant and materials at manufacturing sites and on-site works to ensure they meet client specifications and monitor progress against the contract.
  • Serve as the on-site electrical resident engineer according to project requirements.
  • Ensure all work produced by the team meets quality standards.
  • Manage contractor payments.
  • Act as Lead Engineer.
  • Support the development of less experienced colleagues and enhance the overall capability of the team.

 

 

Experience and Qualifications

 

Essential

  • Minimum of Five years post-graduate electrical experience in HV power industry
  • A proven track record in delivering electrical scope for HV substations or Renewable engineering projects
  • Strong knowledge of HV construction activities.
  • Strong understanding of safety in construction, encompassing HV safety, PSDP and PSCS processes.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and proven track record of managing internal and external stakeholders.
  • The demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
  • Full drivers’ licence valid for use in Republic of Ireland

Desirable

  • Substation Design Experience
  • Experience of working on renewable energy projects
  • Knowledge of D&B and/or EPC projects
  • Project management and contract management skills and knowledge
  • An understanding  of Tendering process.

 

 

Location

 

This position will be based in EMP Dublin or Cork office but travel to project locations is a key requirement of the role.

Salary

€57,000 to €68,000 per annum
