Transmission & Distribution Engineering (TDE) provides specialist asset lifecycle management engineering services across ESB’s Transmission & Distribution businesses.

The Substations Maintenance team delivers maintenance services and diagnostic testing of substation primary plant assets across ESB Networks and ESB Generation & Trading. This includes HV plant condition assessments, fault investigations, DC systems, SF6, rotating machinery and mobile substation fleet support.

As a key member of the team, the Senior Professional Engineer will deliver these services and contribute to ESB’s Net Zero 2040 strategy.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver the TDE business plan aligned with Net Zero 2040 objectives
  • Ensure maintenance programmes and projects are delivered safely and to high quality standards
  • Lead testing, diagnostics and fault investigations of HV plant, and develop technical policies and standards
  • Provide technical assurance for maintenance and overhaul projects
  • Manage stakeholder and supplier relationships,
  • Mentor and develop colleagues
  • Contribute to asset lifecycle strategies and innovation initiatives

 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience
  • Strong project & programme management
  • Strong technical knowledge of substation plant
  • Proven delivery track record
  • Strong stakeholder management
  • Knowledge of ESB processes and HSE standards
  • Ability to manage priorities and deadlines
  • Full driving licence

Desirable:

  • Experience in DC systems, ATEX, SF6 or rotating plant
  • Professional membership (Engineers Ireland, IET, Cigre etc.)
  • Chartered status

 

Qualifications

Essential:

Level 8 Engineering qualification or equivalent

Desirable: Chartered Engineer

 

Location

Portlaoise or Cork with nationwide travel and Smart Working.

Salary 

 €59,000 - €70,000 per annum
