Senior Team Lead, Civil Structural and Building Standards
The Networks & Civil, Environmental Engineering Department (NCEE) within Engineering and Major Projects provides a range of planning, design, construction, operation & maintenance, and management services required for electricity industry infrastructure projects in Ireland
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Site Construction Support Team Lead to join our Pre-CA and Construction Group within Networks Civil & Environmental Engineering (NCEE). This role is critical to ensuring the successful delivery of civil works during the Construction phase of Networks Engineering projects.
The Team Lead will manage a group of Civil Site Inspectors and Specialists, providing leadership, technical guidance, and quality assurance across multiple projects. You will play a key role in maintaining safety standards, driving efficiency, and ensuring compliance with ESB’s engineering and environmental requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Team Leadership & Oversight
Lead a team of Site Inspectors and Construction Specialists to ensure efficient and effective delivery of site inspection requirements for all Networks infrastructure projects. Set team objectives, manage performance, and ensure accountability for results.
Mentoring & Development
Mentor and train less experienced team members to build capability and expertise within the team.
Quality Management & Process Improvement
Develop and deliver improvements to current Site Inspector QMS procedures.
Promote and lead a strong safety and quality management culture through ownership and visible commitment.
Technical Expertise & Advisory Role
Act as the subject matter expert on civil engineering construction techniques and processes. Serve as the primary point of contact for all Site Inspector advice on ESB Networks Engineering projects.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Collaborate with cross-functional teams across ESB to ensure quality and safety considerations are integrated into project planning and execution.
Resource Planning & Management
Liaise with other teams and managers to identify, develop, and manage resource requirements for the team. Strategically identify additional resource needs and develop external support through Framework Agreements with consultants or contractors.
Stakeholder Engagement & Continuous Improvement
Drive improvements in inspection processes and maintain strong relationships with project owners and internal stakeholders.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
- Minimum of seven years post-graduate experience.
- Good understanding on the scoping, planning, design and construction phases of project work. Experience in successfully managing contractors in their delivery of construction projects.
- The demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
- A flexible approach to work, especially where necessary to deliver excellent Stakeholder Management service.
- Self-motivation and ability to project-manage own work and coordinate with those working alongside. Ability to make quality decisions and judgements.
- A logical, yet imaginative approach to problem solving.
- Ability to work and share knowledge and competencies to develop junior staff.
- A clear focus on delivery of high-quality work with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Full drivers’ licence valid for use in Republic of Ireland.
Desirable
- Experience in Civil Engineering / Utility project contracts in excess of €10m in contract value would be advantageous.
- Chartered status in a recognised professional institution.
- Recent Experience in managing a team.
Qualifications
Essential
- A recognised level 8 degree in civil/structural Engineering or equivalent work experience.
Location
This role is based in EMP Dublin or Cork office but travel to project locations as required, is a key requirement of the role.

The successful candidate may combine working from home within the Republic of Ireland, with attendance at base for in-person collaboration, the frequency of which is agreed with the manager and may change as we learn about hybrid working. Site visits is also a feature of this role which will require a certain amount of travel within Ireland.
General
It is not anticipated that a staff member still on probation (either new entrant probation or a probation from a previous promotion) will be eligible to apply for a promotional vacancy.
Typically, an individual must have completed their probation and should have at least two years’ experience in their current role before being eligible to apply for a promotion.
An application from a staff member who does not meet the above criteria must have the approval of both the senior line manager and the HRM within the BU before progressing to application
Note: For staff currently on non-monthly pay frequency, any promotion to Bands 5 and above will result in a change in pay frequency to monthly.

Salary
€49,000 to €58,000 per annum
