Group Treasury is responsible for managing ESB’s debt portfolio of over €7bn (including €1.7bn of Green Bonds), ensuring that the ESB Group is funded in the most appropriate and cost-effective manner and has sufficient cash reserves to meet current and future liabilities. It also manages key financial risks including interest rate, foreign exchange and counterparty risk, and provides best practice guidance and support on Treasury matters to the ESB business lines.
ESB Group Treasury is focused on three core areas:
- Financing ESB’s Net Zero 2040 Strategy. In 2019, ESB issued Ireland’s first corporate public green bond and have issued a number of subsequent green bonds since our inaugural issuance. ESB was also the first Irish utility to have a syndicated sustainability linked loan.
- Managing ESB’s financial risks. ESB is exposed to interest rate, foreign exchange, inflation and counterparty related risks. Amongst other non-financial protections, ESB Treasury execute and manage a portfolio of derivatives to mitigate said risks.
- Maintaining ESB’s strong credit rating. A strong credit rating is important to ESB to ensure the necessary financial flexibility exists to support our strategy. ESB is rated A3 by Moody’s and A- by Standard & Poor’s.
This position will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to develop and enhance their skills across all areas of Treasury.
Key Responsibilities
- Development and implementation of ESB’s liquidity strategy including management and forecasting of the Group’s overall cash requirements.
- Execution of treasury related transactions, including money-market and foreign exchange, with ESB relationship banks.
- Managing and improving ESB’s internal funding arrangements.
- Maintaining and leveraging strong bank relationships for the benefit of ESB.
- Working with external and internal counterparties, on the negotiation and ongoing management of the Group’s Trade Finance (Letter of Credit) facilities as well as the provision of individual financial guarantees and other collateralisation requirements.
- Providing commercial and treasury support to ESB Senior Management and business units, assisting in the analysis and evaluation of funding, market risk, collateral and other treasury related decisions.
- Contributing to the development of high quality and efficient treasury management systems and processes.
- Supporting the implementation and enhancement of Board approved Treasury policies and procedures and the delivery of best practice treasury control environment.
- Contributing to the delivery of other treasury initiatives as required as part of the Treasury team, including the execution of general funding transactions and foreign exchange and interest rate risk management solutions.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- Minimum of five years’ experience in a treasury or related role (e.g. commercial banking).
- A 3rd Level qualification or equivalent work experience is essential
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship management skills.
- Excellent analytical skills, combined with a commercial focus.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Experience in negotiating commercial contracts would be beneficial.
Desirable
- Knowledge of treasury management systems and processes is desirable.
Location
This position will be based in ESB Head Office 27, Lower Fitzwilliam Street, Dublin 2.

Salary
€69, 500 - €81,500
