Engineering & Major Projects (EMP) is responsible for the efficient delivery of major projects and engineering solutions required by ESB and its customers to lead the transition to reliable, affordable, low carbon energy at home and internationally.  

Join Generation Engineering Delivery (GED) as a Senior Specialist Site Resident Civil Engineer / Site Manager where we deliver innovative and efficient engineering solutions for our partners in EMP.  The GED Construction Commercial & Contracts Group delivers a focused service for projects undertaken within EMP and specialises in: 

  • Construction management, 
  • Contract management,
  • Commercial management.   

We are looking for a Senior Site Resident Civil Engineer / Site Manager to join us to become a key member of the team on our journey to a Brighter Future. 

The Senior Specialist Site Resident Civil Engineer / Site Manager role involves overseeing the day-to-day operations and management of Contractors undertaking civil works contracts on largescale generation projects as it delivers on its Net Zero 2040 strategy. 

The successful candidate will initially be assigned to a renewable onshore wind project construction site located in northern Scotland for an expected duration of 18 months and thereafter will return to Ireland to work on further largescale generation construction sites, with opportunities including but not limited to Thermal OCGT, Solar Projects and Demolition/Controlled Dismantling of existing Generation Power Station assets. The projects in Ireland are located throughout the country.  

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring project contracts are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality, safety, environmental and planning compliance as well as commercial and contract adherence. The role also involves assisting with the mentoring and professional development of junior staff.  

The role will involve full-time assignment to the particular project site.  

 

Key Responsibilities   

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:  

  • Manage, monitor and supervise all on-site activities of our Contractors, specifically for generation projects construction and/or demolition contracts during enabling works, main construction and commissioning activities. 
  • Administer the Contracts for main Contractors on site, including discharging of delegated responsibilities by the Engineer including corresponding with the Contractor in relation to all site issues.
  • Ensure strong compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations, and planning compliance, with a strong emphasis on the specific challenges of electricity generating power plant construction.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for the project team, on site for the specified project.
  • Monitor project progress and prepare regular reports for the overall project team and senior management.
  • Coordinate with project managers, design engineers, safety specialists, environmental specialists and other stakeholders to ensure seamless Contract execution.
  • Undertake Quality Assurance documentation and Site Inspection Test Plan reviews, audits and checks of the civil works on the site throughout the construction period. 
  • Resolve any issues or conflicts that arise on-site promptly and effectively in collaboration with other project team members.  
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of site activities, including daily logs, inspections, and incident reports.
  • Support the assessment and resolution of Contractor’s claims and commercial risks.  
  • Support the project team with Third Party Stakeholder Management including Landowners interactions.  
 

Experience and Qualifications 

Essential 

  • Level 8 Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent third level qualification in Civil Engineering. 
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in civil engineering with experience of construction site management for energy infrastructure projects. 
  • Strong working knowledge of FIDIC Contracts and the administration of Contracts in this form. 
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to delivery civil/structural engineering construction phase projects on time and to the highest professional standards. 
  • Proven track record of being results driven and solution focused in a commercially driven environment. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work on one’s own initiative while also collaborating strongly within a team. 
  • Ability to make high quality decisions and judgements. 
  • Led successful stakeholder engagements with internal and external relevant parties and authorities. 
  • Strong capability in assessing, communicating and managing project critical risks.  
  • A clear focus on delivery of high-quality work.  
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work and share knowledge and competencies within a project team structure.  
  • Excellent report and contractor correspondence writing skills. 
  • A flexible approach to work, especially where necessary to deliver excellent client service.  
  • Proficient IT skills.  
  • Full driving license with access to a car. 

Desirable  

  • Acted in the position of Site Resident Civil Engineer and/or Site Manager in previous energy utility infrastructure projects. 
  • Chartered status of a recognised professional institution. 
  • Project Management qualification. 

 

Location   

This is a full-time onsite role. The successful candidate will initially be assigned for an envisaged 18-month duration to Chleansaid Wind Farm site in Scotland and thereafter return to the Republic of Ireland to work on further largescale generation project sites. Travel to other project sites may be required from time to time. Travel to EMP Head Office in Dublin may also be required from time to time.  

The base location associated with this role for the successful candidate will be EMP Offices at The Sidings Building, Dublin 2 or Eastgate, Little Island, Cork. 

 

Reporting To 

The successful candidate will report to the Manager, Construction, Commercial and Contracts Group within Generation Engineering Delivery.

Salary 

€71,000 - €84,000 per annum
