We are looking for an Electrical Engineer with a minimum of five years' post-graduate experience to develop as an asset lifecycle specialist covering all High Voltage substation primary assets from MV to 400 kV. The Lifecycle Team in Transmission and Distribution Engineering is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining best practice lifecycle processes across multiple business units encompassing Asset Management, Specification, Operation & Maintenance, Project Delivery, Environmental and Innovation areas. In support of ESB’s strategic objectives of decarbonising electricity, building resilient infrastructure and empowering clients, you will provide technical expertise and support to key stakeholders such as ESB Networks, ESB Generation and Trading, Engineering and Major Projects.

The Lifecycle specialist team collaborates with international utilities and manufacturers and provides expert guidance to external bodies such as Eurelectric, CIGRE, Government Departments, Eirgrid as required to affect cultural change, improve efficiencies and achieve regulatory compliance.

 

Key Responsibilities

The role of the Lifecycle Specialist includes the following responsibilities:

  • Act as a technical specialist with responsibility for the preparation, development and implementation of Asset Management and Lifecycle Plans/Processes and Maintenance Strategies for all HV substation primary assets
  • Work closely with specialist teams to support continuous improvement of the inspection process and propose preventative maintenance schedules based on failure and condition data of the assets providing technical training as required.
  • Participate on site or OEM premises at various investigation, maintenance and monitoring activities
  • Continually develop expertise in asset performance and lifecycle management for current and future technologies (FMEA, Online monitoring, HV primary assets and O&M methodologies) within the TDE group by building strong relationships with OEMs, involvement in working groups such as Cigre etc, presenting at international conferences and regular communication with external stakeholders/energy sector groups
  • Support Lifecycle, Digital Asset and Primary Assets Team with input based on technical competence and latest lifecycle best practice, covering areas including:
    • Online monitoring and asset health development
    • Providing technical expertise and knowledge of HV primary assets
      • Input to revision of HV primary assets and technical process management specifications
      • Input to revision of risk assessments for HV primary assets technical specifications to ensure safety and quality throughout its complete lifecycle (design, manufacture, delivery, installation, energisation, operation, maintenance, decommissioning)

 

Experience and Qualifications

Essential

  • A Level 8 engineering qualification or equivalent work experience is essential.
  • Minimum of five years post-graduate experience in HV Power and/or HV T&D industry
  • Strong knowledge of HV primary assets such as Power Transformers / Reactors, GIS and AIS equipment and Instrument Transformers
  • Knowledge of power system operation principles, primary asset maintenance, protection devices and associated software applications
  • An understanding of HV primary asset technical specifications and how they are comprised.
  • A strong appreciation of, and commitment to, safety and quality of HV primary assets for their complete lifecycle
  • An awareness of environmental, sustainability and Net-Zero climate action objectives

 

Desirable

  • Full driver’s license

 

Location

This role is site and office based, base location in EMP Dublin office at The Sidings, Grand Canal. Continuous travel to project/ conference locations and OEM factory locations for short durations is a key requirement of the role.

Salary 

€59,000 - €70,000 Per Annum
