The ‘Generation Projects’ group within ESB was established to develop all power generation projects, including renewable, dispatchable, storage and grid supporting assets, as well as managing overhauls and construction projects.  This role requires the design and development of utility-scale Solar PV projects. 


We are looking for a Solar Project Engineer to join us on our journey to a Brighter Future.  You will work within the team responsible for the project management of all technical development activities which include planning permission, grid connection, design, specification, and procurement.  This role requires close collaboration with multiple stakeholders such as our Asset Development Team, contractors, and regulatory authorities, etc.  You will also support our solar specialists who manage the design, layout, energy yield assessment and optimisation of solar projects.



Key Responsibilities


  • Support the development of projects and ensure that they are completed in accordance with the agreed programme, to budget and to the appropriate quality and safety standards.
  • Coordination of the technical due diligence of potential acquisitions.
  • Management of work packages and review of deliverables from consultants, designers, and contractors in line with project management methodology.
  • Coordinating a multidisciplinary engineering team of individuals in the delivery of projects and liaising with key internal stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.  
  • Support the specification, tender preparation, and evaluation processes for the purpose of selecting preferred contractors, e.g., Solar EPC, eBook, Enabling Works, in line with the agreed contracting and procurement strategy for the project(s).



Experience and Qualifications



  • A minimum of 5 years relevant experience in an energy or related sector. 
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A proven track record in the procurement and delivery of technical projects. 
  • Attention to detail with the ability to work to tight deadlines whilst maintaining accuracy.
  • Experience of working independently from own initiative, taking ownership of work.
  • Flexibility, which is important in all aspects of the role, including having to travel nationally.



  • An understanding of the commercial and technical aspects of project design and construction.
  • Experience with ESB’s Project Management Methodology or Similar PMBoK Certification. 
  • Experience in leading the development of technical specifications, as well as tender preparation and evaluation.






  • Primary engineering level 8 degree in a relevant discipline and/or relevant work experience.



  • Demonstrate evidence of progression towards Chartered Engineer status with a recognised engineering institution.





This position will be based in One Dublin Airport Central or Eastgate Cork. Travel nationally may also be a feature of this role.

All smart working arrangements are subject to manager approval and ongoing review, based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the individual.

€55,000 to €65,000 per annum
