The Networks & Civil, Environmental Engineering Department (NCEE) within Engineering and Major Projects provides a range of planning, design, construction, operation & maintenance, and management services required for electricity industry infrastructure projects in Ireland

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Contracts Manager Team Lead to join our Pre-CA and Construction Group within Networks Civil & Environmental Engineering (NCEE). This role is critical to ensuring the successful delivery of civil works during the Construction phase of Networks Engineering projects.

The Team Lead will manage a group of Civil Site Inspectors and Specialists, providing leadership, technical guidance, and quality assurance across multiple projects. You will play a key role in maintaining safety standards, driving efficiency, and ensuring compliance with ESB’s engineering and environmental requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead a team of Project Managers, Resident Engineers, Site Inspectors and Construction Specialists, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of Project requirements for all project owners on Networks infrastructure.
  • Mentoring and training of less experienced team members.
  • Developing and delivering improvements to current Project Manager, Resident Engineer and Site Inspector QMS procedures.
  • Act as the subject matter expert on civil engineering construction contracts, techniques and processes.
  • Set team objectives, manage performance, and ensure accountability for results.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across ESB to ensure quality and safety considerations are integrated into project planning and execution.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all Project Manager, Resident Engineer and Site Inspector advice on ESB Networks Engineering projects.
  • Promote and lead the safety and quality management culture by taking ownership and demonstrating visible commitment.
  • Liaise with other teams and managers to both identify, develop and manage the resource requirements of the team.
  • Strategically identify any additional resource requirements within the team and/or the identification and development of any specific external supports in the form of Framework Agreements with consultants or contractors.

 

 Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 Essential

  • Minimum of seven years post-graduate experience.
  • Strong understanding on the scoping, planning, design and construction phases of project work, including Contract Administration
  • The demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
  • A flexible approach to work, especially where necessary to deliver excellent Stakeholder Management service.
  • Experience in successfully managing contractors in their delivery of construction projects.
  • Ability to make quality decisions and judgements.
  • Self-motivation and ability to project-manage own work and coordinate with those working alongside.
  • A logical, yet imaginative approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to work and share knowledge and competencies to develop junior staff.
  • A clear focus on delivery of high-quality work.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Full drivers’ licence valid for use in Republic of Ireland.

Desirable

  • Experience in Civil Engineering / Utility project contracts in excess of €10m in contract value would be advantageous.
  • Chartered status in a recognised professional institution.
  • Recent experience in managing a team.

 

 Qualifications

 Essential

  • A recognised level 8 degree in civil/structural Engineering or equivalent work experience.

 

Location

This role is based in EMP Dublin or Cork office but travel to project locations as required, is a key requirement of the role.

The successful candidate may combine working from home within the Republic of Ireland, with attendance at base for in-person collaboration, the frequency of which is agreed with the manager and may change as we learn about hybrid working.  Site visits is also a feature of this role which will require a certain amount of travel within Ireland.

Salary

 €71,000 to €84,000 per annum
