Wholesale Markets Senior Analyst
Position Description
To act as the primary subject matter expert (SME) for Electric Ireland regarding all-island wholesale market developments. This role ensures Electric Ireland’s portfolio is optimized and compliant with the Single Electricity Market (SEM) rules while leading the business through strategic and technical changes.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively participate in and stay up-to-date with various SEM market committees and industry fora (e.g., TSC Modifications Committee, SEM Committee consultations).
- Review and implement strategy changes for the wholesale market, ensuring Electric Ireland is positioned to meet net-zero targets and 80% renewable integration goals by 2030.
- Lead all formal communications for Electric Ireland regarding wholesale market issues, including drafting policy response papers for the CRU, Utility Regulator, and government departments and participating in engagement forums.
- Leading business-wide changes for Electric Ireland when relevant to wholesale market modifications, such as updates to the Trading and Settlement Code (TSC) or Capacity Market arrangements. This may include the establishment of project forums to manage change effectively.
- Provide technical and commercial expertise to support the development and implementation of new wholesale products, including Flexibility Services, Demand Side Response (DSR), and new low-carbon offerings for large energy users.
- Serve as the central point of contact between trading teams, retail business units, and external market operators (SEMO/SEMOpx) to ensure seamless market participation.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- A Level 8 Honours degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, or a related quantitative field.
- A minimum of 7+ years in the energy industry.
- Understanding of I-SEM market design, balancing market principles, and the Integrated Business Planning process.
- Exceptional ability to lead high-stakes communications and translate complex regulatory changes into clear actionable advice for senior management.
Desirable
- Ability to represent the companies interests at industry forums
- Ability to review changes and efficiently assess likely impact on business processes and/or commercial impact.
Location
This position will be based in Swift Square, Santry, Dublin 9.
Smart Working at ESB is designed to make ‘in-person’ time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful candidate may work flexibly within the jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week. All Smart Working arrangements are subject to regular review based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the business.

Salary
€71,900 - 84,600 per annum (depending on experience)
