Position Description

 

Distributed Generation is a department within Renewable Operations (ESB Generation and Trading) with responsibility for the management of the Operation and Maintenance of ESB’s distributed generation assets, consisting of Battery Energy Storage Systems, Synchronous Condensers, Flexible Gas-Fired Generation plant and Solar sites.  

As part of delivery of ESB’s Net Zero Strategy, it is our ambition that we will generate 70% of our electricity generation from renewable assets by 2030 with 1.7GW of offshore wind, 3.5GW of onshore wind and 900MW of solar and also further develop and operate renewables enabling flexible generation assets including battery energy storage systems, peaking plants and grid support devices.  

Due to the significant expansion of the ESB Generation and Trading renewables portfolio, ESB is seeking to appoint a Distributed Generation Asset Manager & Commercial.  

The successful candidate will be responsible the Asset Management of multiple technologies  across the Distributed Generation sites. The role includes the Contract and Commercial Management of Operations and Maintenance, including Performance Management aspects of the Distributed Generation portfolio.

 

Key Responsibilities 

The key responsibilities include but will not be limited to the following:  

  • Management of the Asset Management, including commercial, procurement and contracts of the O&M department within Distributed Generation.
  • Develop and implement a Life Time Asset Plan (LTAP) and the non-overhaul project process for each of the Distributed Generation Assets, including management of the annual department budget.
  • Develop asset operation and maintenance policies and procedures that are consistent with the O&M business model for the operation of the relevant asset.
  • Develop and manage commercial contracts necessary for O&M across the Portfolio, including management of the Long Term Maintenance Agreements (LTMAs).
  • Develop appropriate asset management systems and procedures to ensure the generation facilities can be managed in full compliance with all relevant safety, environmental, and technical regulations and meet best industry practice for process safety and safety critical maintenance.
  • Manage the performance of assets including optimisation and reporting across the full life cycle of assets.
  • Drive the implementation of standards and guidelines per the PGTS requirements.
  • Represent Distributed Generation in new asset development, ensuring plant design and O&M contracts are appropriate for delivery commercial and technical performance in line with the business case expectations.

 

Experience and Qualifications 

 

Essential  

  • The successful candidate will have a minimum of 7+ years relevant experience
  • A primary engineering degree in any of the engineering disciplines, or equivalent is required.  
  • Experience and competence in operation and maintenance of power plant and in generation technologies, systems and procedures.
  • Appreciation of variety of renewable and distributed generation technologies.
  • Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Have the ability to lead, empower and motivate staff to deliver best international practice for asset management.

 

Desirable 

  • Ability in participate on negotiation teams driving contract negotiation of Power Plant projects
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards same

 

Location 

 

The successful candidate will be based at ESB Generation and Trading Offices in Dublin. Short term domestic and international travel to generation sites in ROI and UK are a feature during the course of their work. 

 

Smart Working at ESB is designed to make ‘in-person’ time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful candidate may work flexibly within the jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week. All Smart Working arrangements are subject to regular review based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the business.

 

Reporting to 

 

The successful candidate will report to Engineering Services Manager, Distributed Generation Manager, Renewable Operations.

Salary

 

€71,976 - €84,677 per annum
