Position Description


Applications are invited for the position of Project Specialist within Asset Development.  


Asset Development identifies and develops new generation assets that enables ESB realise the generation elements of our Brighter Future strategy. These assets comprise both renewable generation projects and the essential enabling technologies that are required to enable a low carbon electricity system function effectively.  


The team is currently developing a number of projects and longer term options in Ireland and the UK, across various different technologies such as Offshore Wind, On-Shore Wind, Solar, Battery & Storage Solutions, Flexible Generation and Hydrogen in partnership with other units across G&T and ESB. The team has an extensive pipeline of projects across a range of technologies and is seeking to convert these options into reality. Asset Development’s recent track record includes acquisition of offshore windfarms, a large solar pipeline and a large onshore wind pipeline. It has brought the synchronous compensator at Moneypoint , several large scale batteries and the Oweninny wind farm to the construction phase. Asset Development continues to progress all its other projects through the development cycle.


The successful candidate will support the Project Directors in the development of projects identified by ESB.  They will work closely with team members across the various business units in ESB. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on large and complex projects ensuring that these are progressed in line with delivery strategy for Asset Development. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, innovative, commercially driven and have a keen interest in renewable energy and commercial skills.  



Key Responsibilities


Responsibilities for this role include:


  • Provide support to the project teams in the delivery of renewable energy projects from early development phase; 
  • Carry out technical research and data analysis to support the project directors in optimisation of the renewable energy projects from inception right through to financial close; 
  • Embrace Safety across the projects by adhering to the programme safety management strategy and managing implementation of this strategy across all projects; 
  • Support the project director to ensure effective delivery of projects in line with ESB’s internal rigorous project management methodologies, achieving a consistent high standard of output from the project team which meets all technical, commercial, legal procurement and programme requirements; 
  • Assist in the assessment and development of new business opportunities such as greenfield sites, application of new technologies and acquisitions; 
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the procurement and contract strategy for each of the projects and co-ordinate the various contracts required for each project;  
  • Manage stakeholder relationships, both internally and externally; 
  • Regular reporting to the Project Director and various teams ensuring that members are informed of relevant project updates and deliverables 
  • Become informed of industry issues which may impact on project ensure that this information feeds into the decision making process. 



Knowledge, Skills and Experience



The successful candidate will have at least 4 years of relevant postgraduate experience and have: 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail 
  • Ability to work well within a team environment and on own initiative 
  • Excellent IT skills including knowledge MS Office suite 
  • Ability to build relationships with key stakeholders 
  • Problem solving ability 



  • Knowledge of energy generation technology and experience of working with these technologies.  
  • Knowledge of the energy market and regulatory supports in Ireland and UK 
  • Knowledge of procurement procedures.  
  • Understanding of power (particularly renewable) generation business. 






  • A primary Engineering, Business or Finance degree. 



  • Project management qualification and/or other business management qualifications that may compliment the essential/desirable knowledge, skills and experience listed above.





The position will be located in ESB Head Office, Dublin 2 and will entail regular business travel. Remote working will also be a feature. 



Reporting to


Project Director, Asset Development.  





€45,000 - €50,000 per annum
