Sustainable Rivers Operations Manager (Temporary 12 Months)
Position Description
ESB is seeking a transformation leader, who will lead the ESB Sustainable Rivers Operations. The candidate will be a team player and self-starter with the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and manage, and develop and motivate team members. The successful candidate will also have a demonstrable ability to communicate and relate effectively with staff at all levels and engage professionally with all external stakeholder.
Our Corporate Strategy calls for ESB to step forward on our Environmental & Social responsibilities. ESB Sustainable Rivers Strategy sets out the strategic direction that ESB will take on its rivers. There will be a requirement to increase our engagements across local communities as well as supporting the planned upgrade to many of our fish connectivity plant systems and processes in the coming years. This position offers the successful candidate the opportunity to drive transformational change across all areas of people, processes and assets within Sustainable Rivers. A key feature of the role will be ongoing engagement with ESB’s Hydro stations and E&MP, ESB’s centre of engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all Sustainable Rivers operations, to optimise the available resources whilst driving improvements with ESB’s safety, sustainability and environmental obligations
- Be a Safety Leader and ensure that normal and emergency business procedures are maintained, updated and adhered to for the safety of personnel and the integrity of Sustainable Rivers assets
- Pro-actively engage with all key internal & external stakeholders and governmental agencies, and become intimately aware of the various regulatory, licensing, governance and legislative frameworks under which the Sustainable Rivers Group is operating
- Manage all fishing and boat permitting processes under ESB’s remit
- Manage all budgeting and resource planning for the area

- Lead an informed and empowered workforce through good communications, teamwork and KPI delivery
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- 7 years relevant experience
- A primary science, engineering or environmental degree or similar, or equivalent work experience.
- Be self-motivated and have the ability to contribute to the Community Relations & Sustainable Rivers Team effectiveness
- Have proven experience managing people to lead, empower and motivate to deliver effective operational performance
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills
Desirable
- Knowledge or experience in current planning and environmental requirements
This position is based in ESB Head Office, F27, Dublin and will include travel to various sites within the catchments.
ESB is committed to smart working – combining digital tools with a culture of trust and empowerment to enable flexible ways of working. The successful candidate may work flexibly within their jurisdiction with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration on at least two anchor days per week. All smart working arrangements are subject to manager approval and ongoing review, based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the individual.
Where some SMART Working arrangements may feature as part of this role, the successful candidate will mainly be on the ground managing Sustainable Rivers Operations and driving transformation.
Reporting To
The successful candidate will report to the Community Relations & Sustainable Rivers Manager.

Salary
€71, 976 - €84,677 per annum
