Renewables Site Operations Manager
Position description
ESB Renewables O&M is a division within Generation & Trading (G&T) with responsibility for the management of the Operation and Maintenance of ESB’s Onshore Wind farms across ROI, NI, England , Wales and a portfolio of Distributed Assets consisting of Battery Energy Storage Systems(BESS 311MW), a Synchronous Condenser and Flexible Gas-Fired Generation plant (190MW).
As part of delivery of ESB’s Net Zero Strategy, it is our ambition that we will generate 70% of our electricity generation from renewable assets by 2030 with 1.7GW of offshore wind, 3.5GW of onshore wind and 900MW of solar and also further develop and operate renewables enabling flexible generation assets including battery energy storage systems, peaking plants and grid support devices.
With significant expansion plans in the renewable generation sector, this position offers the successful candidate an exciting opportunity to join an expanding business area taking on a challenging and autonomous role.
ESB Renewables O&M are seeking applications for the role of Renewables Site Operations Manager, who will work as part of the Site Operations Team and will work closely with the wider Renewables Operations team. The sites assigned to the role will be based on business needs. This is a broad ranging dynamic role and a key role in the Renewable O&M Management team with responsibility for developing and leading the operation and maintenance of Windfarm sites and Distributed Assets including Battery Energy Storage Systems, Synchronous Condensers, Flexible Gas-fired plant, Solar PV farms and other new technologies and part of the existing Renewables fleet.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a team of Renewable Operations Site Managers across multiple locations and technologies.
- Responsible for the coordination of day-to-day renewable operations across multiple locations and technologies.
- Operate as part of wider renewable production teams in operations of assets including necessary engagement with relevant areas such as the Renewables Operation Centre and ESB Trading.
- Procurement of services and materials, ensuring that services contracts are operated fairly and that discussions to renew are initiated to ensure timely renewal.
- Liaise with the relevant project teams to enable the grid code and other testing of Wind farms and Distributed Generation assets as they are introduced into the portfolio.
- Collaborate with OEMs, contractors and other resources to ensure successful completion of tests and the submission of test reports to EirGrid.
- Develop and implement operating practices and procedures for assigned Wind farms and Distributed Generation sites.
- Collaborate with the Renewable Operations Mobilisation team to realise effective transfer from mobilisation to enduring operation phase.
- Maintain contact with EirGrid and ESBN in relation to the compliant operation of Distributed Generation assets and windfarms and the scheduling of outages.
- Management of Site Operations safety including initiatives, setting safety targets and delivery of safety goals. Review, update, introduce safety policies and procedures as needed.
- Ensure that lessons learned are communicated to staff, contractors and stakeholders.
- Incorporate new Wind farms and Distributed Generation assets into the existing multi-site induction system.
- Monitor and optimise the commercial and technical performance of wind farms and
Distributed Generation assets and initiate programme(s) to address under performance.
- Agree, set and achieve budgets for windfarm and Distributed Generation operations and for projects. Liaise with other team members to contribute to the Asset Management and Risk processes.
- Responsible for performance and development management of Renewable Operations Site Managers and ensuring appropriate resourcing is in place.
- Operate as part of the wider Renewable Operations Management Team.
- Promote & foster teamwork and empower and develop teams to deliver optimum capability.
Experience and Qualifications
The successful candidate will be a team player, flexible and self-starter with good problem solving skills. They should be able to demonstrate the ability to lead as required, communicate and relate effectively with staff at all levels in the organisation. They will be assertive and committed to maintaining safety culture and standards.
Essential
- A minimum of 7 years’ experience in the energy generation industry, wind operations or similar process industry.
- A 3rd level qualification in an appropriate engineering discipline or equivalent work experience is essential.
Desirable
- Experience in power generation operations, maintenance, technology, systems and procedures.
- Experience in project management and/or good planning skills.
- Demonstrated ability in leading a results focused team.
- Strong commercial focus on contract delivery and plant availability.
Location
This position will be based in ESB Generation and Trading Head Office in Dublin. It will also be a requirement to travel regularly to windfarm and Distribution Generation asset sites.

Salary
€69,500 - €81,800 per annum
