Position Description

 

Distributed Generation is a department within Renewable Operations (ESB Generation and Trading) with responsibility for the management of the Operation and Maintenance of ESB’s distributed generation assets, consisting of Battery Energy Storage Systems, Synchronous Condensers, Flexible Gas-Fired Generation plant and Solar sites.   

 

As part of delivery of ESB’s Net Zero Strategy, it is our ambition that we will generate 70% of our electricity generation from renewable assets by 2030 with 1.7GW of offshore wind, 3.5GW of onshore wind and 900MW of solar and also further develop and operate renewables enabling flexible generation assets including battery energy storage systems, peaking plants and grid support devices.   

 

Due to the significant expansion of the ESB Generation and Trading renewables portfolio, ESB is seeking to appoint a Distributed Generation Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Manager.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for management of all SHE elements of Operations and Maintenance of Distributed Generation. The role includes the management of a Safety and Environmental Team.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the items below:  

 

  • Manage and co-ordinate the Safety and Environment System for Distributed Generation, including line manager responsibility for Safety and Environment team members.
  • Ensure department compliance with relevant Health and Safety legislation, accredited external standards and company standards including ISO 45001 accreditation.
  • Ensure department compliance with relevant Environment legislation and licenses, accredited external standards and company standards including compliance with relevant site Industrial Emissions Licenses and ISO 14001 accreditation.
  • Responsible for the management of Green House Gas Permit and Annual Emissions Returns (AERs) for flexible gas fired assets in the portfolio.
  • Administers the application of the Safe System of Work (SSOW) and integrates new technologies and sites into Distributed Generation operations, co-ordination with central SSOW Team.
  • Supports the Site Operations team in work management, including Contractor Management in the delivery of Operations and Maintenance of the portfolio.
  • Co-ordinates the compliance with Construction Regulations and applied to maintenance activities of Distributed Generation assets.
  • Co-ordinate with mobilisation activities of new Distributed Generation assets and the integration into Safety and Environmental processes.
  • Manage key relationships with internal and external stakeholders in areas of Safety and Environment including the various regulatory and licensing requirements under which the Distributed Generation assets operate.
  • Manages the department Safety, Health and Improvement Plan (SHIP) including co-ordination with Central Safety Team.
  • Deliver roles of Business Continuity Co-Ordinator for Distributed Generation.
  • Responsible for co-ordination of Safety and Environmental training for wider production team.
  • Compiles and administers the department Audit Programme for Safety and Environment.
  • Co-ordinates Induction System and liaises with central support where required.
  • Drive continuous improvement and knowledge sharing in areas of Safety and Environment across Distributed Generation and wider Renewable Operations group.
  • Promotes and contributes to Safe and Sound in Renewable Operations as part of a key engagement of the ESB Safety Strategy.
  • Promote Health and Wellbeing (H&W) Initiatives and work closely with the H&W Champions in Renewable Operations.
  • Operate as part of the wider Distributed Generation Management team in delivering against targets in the Distributed Generation Business Plan.

 

Experience and Qualifications

Essential

 

  • The successful candidate will have a minimum of 7+ years relevant experience
  • Health, Safety or Environmental qualification or relevant work experience.
  • Experience and competence in safety and Environment delivery.
  • Appreciation of variety of renewable and distributed generation technologies. 
  • Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and influencing others. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Have the ability to lead, empower and motivate staff to deliver best international practice for asset management. 

 

Desirable

 

  • Knowledge of power plant technologies, systems, and procedures
  • Technical Qualification

 

Location

 

The successful candidate will be based at ESB Generation and Trading Offices in Dublin. Short term domestic travel to Distributed Generation sites in ROI are a feature during the course of their work. 

 

Smart Working at ESB is designed to make ‘in-person’ time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful candidate may work flexibly within the jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week. All Smart Working arrangements are subject to regular review based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the business.

 

 

Reporting To

The successful candidate will report to Distributed Generation Manager.

Salary

 

€71,976 - €84,677 per annum
