Lifting Gear Maintenance Inspector - Galway
Position Description
The role of Lifting Gear Maintenance Inspector is to ensure ESB Networks comply with its obligations regarding the inspection, maintenance, certification and repair of lifting, working at height and load securing equipment. The role involves lifting and handling of a range of equipment including but not limited to ladders and chain hoists. A candidate for this role must be capable of undertaking the duties attached to the role and be in a state of health such as would indicate the ability to render regular and efficient service. Travel is a feature of the role.
Key Responsibilities
- To complete all work safely and work closely with your Line Manager and Safety Manager in relation to all safety issues in Fleet & Equipment. This includes the reporting of safety incidents in an efficient manner.
- To have a detailed knowledge of the range and practical application of lifting, climbing and load securing equipment in use.
- Inspection, maintenance, repair and certification of all lifting, working at height and load securing equipment in use in ESB Networks.
- Replacement of damaged or defective equipment in a safe, sustainable manner.
- To store and maintain a stock of replacement materials & equipment.
- Maintaining up to date records of all inspections and certification on the Lifting Gear Maintenance database.
- Working to and reporting via IT applications e.g. Outlook, iOS devices etc. on a cyclical inspection schedule.
- Liaise with external contractors as required.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- Electrical or Mechanical Craft Certificate/A suitable Level 7 or higher qualification in Electrical, Electrical Services, Electronics, Mechanical or other suitable alternative qualification with a sizeable mechanical theory content
- Minimum of two years’ post‑qualification electrical or mechanical experience.
- Detailed knowledge and practical experience in the safe application of lifting, climbing, and load‑securing equipment, including the storage, handling, and maintenance of replacement materials and equipment.
- Ability to be self-motivated, working to a schedule with flexibility, to maintain the flow of day-to-day Network's business and provide excellent customer service.
- Proven ability to carry out assigned tasks efficiently, safely, and cost‑effectively, in line with agreed guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Strong relationship‑management skills, with the ability to work effectively with team members, Network technicians, line managers, and suppliers.
- Commitment to maintaining and developing the knowledge and skills required to perform the full range of duties, contributing positively to both individual and team development.
- Experience working to and reporting via IT applications e.g. Outlook, iOS devices.
- Demonstrated proficiency in accurately recording information through written reports
- Full clean driving licence minimum class B
Desirable
- Inspection and maintenance of lifting, work at height and load securing equipment.
- Knowledge and experience of inspection, maintenance, certification and repair of lifting and climbing equipment.
- Up to date manual handling, first aid & Safe Pass training.
Location
This position will be based in ESB Networks Depot, Sean Mulvey Road, Galway.
The successful candidate will be required to cover other locations as the need arises.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo training as required.

Salary
€44,000 - €50,000 per annum.
