Position Description

Renewable Operations is a division within ESB Generation and Trading with responsibility for the management of the Operation and Maintenance of ESB’s renewable assets portfolio. This currently includes Onshore Wind and Distributed Generation portfolio such as large-scale batteries, solar, synchronous condensers and flexible gas plant. 

As part of delivery of the Net Zero by 2040 Strategy ESB will generate 70% of our electricity generation from renewable assets by 2030. This will involve an increase to +5,000MW of renewable generation, offshore wind, onshore wind and solar. Also further development of renewable enabling flexible generation assets including battery energy storage systems, peaking plants and grid support devices such as synchronous condensers. 

In recent years, multiple assets have been integrated into the Distributed Generation Portfolio across BESS, Flexible Gas Plant, Synchronous Condensers and Solar. This includes aspects of Project Safey Files, Maintenance Management System, Remote Operation Centre, Safety and Environmental Systems, Asset Management and Risk, Trading, Asset Performance, Engineering Standards and Contractor and Commercial Management.

In ‘26/’27, the Distributed Generation Mobilisation Team will integrate a further 8 new solar sites (474MW) and the Poolbeg OCGT (300MW) into the remotely monitored and controlled portfolio. A development opportunity now exists to support the delivery of this mobilisation program, coordinating the necessary mobilisation activities across the Distributed Generation Portfolio.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the items below:

 

  • Co-ordinate the development and implementation of Mobilisation Plans for new sites. Ensuring that mobilization plans and process include all relevant Safety/Environmental, operational policies and procedures, O&M and engineering documentation and drawings required to be in place for the asset transfer. 
  • Support management of the overall Distributed Generation Mobilisation plan for the program of assets in delivery across 2026/2027. 
  • Co-ordinate mobilisation team and report on status of overall Distributed Generation Mobilisation Program in areas of:
    • On-site mobilisation activities in line with EMP project delivery programs for each asset.
    • Remote Operation Centre’s Training and Capability requirements.
    • Remote Operations Centre on system and process requirements such as Alarm Management, Scada/HMI, EDIL, Standard Operating Procedures, Business Continuity and Emergency Response. Co-ordinate with the Operations Systems team to establish requirements and delivery requirements.
    • Development of interface agreements are compiled and agreed for each asset covering Emergency Response, Safety, Environmental Licencing and any Operational Boundary protocols.
    • Status of all Trading Group requirements pre-commercial operation are programmed and delivered (e.g. Unit Registration, Commercial and Technical Data, Pi)
    • Preparation of the Distributed Generation Maintenance Management System (Maximo) in advance of commercial operation (Asset Inventory, Preventative Maintenance policies).
    • Status of Safety and Environmental Manuals and the integration of the safety file at handover stage.
  • Support Distributed Generation Asset Management Team in compilation and delivery of all OEM and support contracts to ensure operation as per Engineering Standards and Business Case assumptions.

 

Experience and Qualifications

Essential

 

The successful candidate will:

 

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience 
  • Relevant 3rd Level qualification or equivalent work experience is required.
  • Proven ability to deliver on the “key responsibilities” outlined above.
  • Knowledge & Experience of Project Management

 

Location

 

The successful candidate will be based at ESB Generation and Trading Offices in Fitzwilliam St., Dublin. Occasional travel to site will be a feature of the role.

 

Smart Working at ESB is designed to make ‘in-person’ time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful candidate may work flexibly within the jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week. All Smart Working arrangements are subject to regular review based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the business.

 

 

Reporting To

The successful candidate will report to Mobilisation Manager of Distributed Generation.

Salary

 

€59,980 - €70,564 per annum
