Position description

 

Renewable Operations is a division within ESB Generation and Trading with responsibility for the management of the Operation and Maintenance of ESB’s renewable assets portfolio.

 

As part of delivery of the Net Zero by 2040 Strategy it is our ambition that we will generate 70% of our electricity generation from renewable assets by 2030 with 1.7GW of offshore wind, 3.5GW of onshore wind and 900MW of solar and also to incorporate 800 MW of renewables enabling flexible generation assets including battery energy storage systems, peaking plants and grid support devices such as synchronous condensers.

 

Due to the projected significant expansion of the renewables portfolio over the coming years, ESB is seeking to appoint a Project Engineer within the Distributed Generation team. The role of the Distributed Generation Project Engineer is to support the Engineering and Asset Management function within the Distributed Generation team with specific focus on the grid scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, solar farms, open cycle gas turbine technology, hydrogen and synchronous condensers. Other technologies may also feature at a future date within this O&M department.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the items below: 

 

  • Applying a high level of safety standards in every aspect of the work and take a leadership role in Safety in all Distributed Generation Activities.
  • Provide technical support to the Distributed Generation Engineering Services Manager and the wider O&M team.
  • Provide on-site support to the Site Operations team during normal operation and plant outages.
  • Produce monthly performance reports (report RAM data, contract performance, etc.) and monitor on a regular basis the operating performance and efficiency of the plant to ensure it continues to operate at optimum efficiency, output and within Contractual and Warranty obligations.
  • Support Long Term Asset Management and Maintenance processes for multiple technologies and sites within the portfolio.
  • Development of technical specifications, lead the review and evaluation of tenders and production of tender evaluation reports.
  • Develop, support and manage several contracts such as technical support, CCTV, etc.
  • Manage the ‘Management of Change’ process for the plants.
  • Undertake ad hoc projects as assigned.

 

 

Experience and Qualifications

 

Essential

 

The successful candidate will: 

 

  • A minimum of 3 years relevant experience is required in O&M of generating plant, project work or equivalent.
  • Degree qualification in an Engineering Discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • Self-motivated and ability to project-manage own work and coordinate with others.
  • Be flexible and service motivated. Flexibility is important in all aspects of the role, including travel nationally and internationally.

 

Desirable

 

  • Knowledge of aspects of equipment (electrical, C&I, mechanical) utilised in power plant projects.
  • Trained, authorised and experienced in ESB Generation and Trading SSoW Safety Rules or equivalent.

 

Location

 

This position will be based in ESB Generation and Trading Offices in Fitzwilliam St., Dublin. Travel to Distributed Generation sites may feature in this role. 

 

Smart Working at ESB is designed to make ‘in-person’ time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful candidate may work flexibly within the jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week. All Smart Working arrangements are subject to regular review based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the business.

Salary

 

€49,980 - €58,622 per annum
