The ESB Generation and Trading (“GT”) business develops, operates and trades the output of ESB’s electricity generation assets. The business is organised through its Asset Development, Trading and Generation functions. The business has operations in Ireland and Great Britain and has an annual turnover of in excess of €1bn. The portfolio consists of more than 5GW of thermal and renewable generation assets and has a target to have at least 5 GW of renewable energy by 2030.

Applications are invited for the position of Senior Commercial Financial Analyst within the Asset Development Financial Analysis team. The Asset Development Financial Analysis team supports the delivery of the ESB Net Zero by 2040 Strategy through financial analysis and detailed financial modelling for Asset Development’s strategic investments. Asset Development is responsible for delivering a targeted renewable generation capacity of 5,000MW for ESB by 2030, and a Net Zero electricity generation portfolio by 2040.

Asset Development Commercial Financial Modelling Analysts specialise in financial modelling and business case development across a range of technologies, including onshore and offshore wind, solar, hydrogen, battery storage, renewable enabling technology and associated renewable and flexible generation projects to support the transition to Net Zero, and of energy security in our communities.

The successful candidate will have an opportunity to work on and influence decision-making over a wide range of the generation technologies in which Asset Development is investing. The financial modelling team develop deep specialist understanding of different energy generation technologies and is the owner of financial models which increase in sophistication based on projects’ development status, from early concept to construction stage.

Reporting to one of the Asset Development Financial Analysis Managers, the positions involve investment strategy analysis, financial modelling of specific projects and providing ongoing support on various financial issues in a fast moving environment.

 

Key Responsibilities 

 

The Senior Commercial Financial Analyst will have the following responsibilities:

  • Prepare and update financial models for capital investment projects at key milestones including sensitivity analysis.
  • Review and challenge of investment proposals for new and existing projects or business initiatives to ensure a sound commercial basis for undertaking such opportunities.
  • Communicate the results of analysis and provide insights to support decision making at project and senior management level.
  • Support the development and maintenance of a robust standardised financial modelling process.
  • Assist business managers in forecasting, validation and update of business financial plans.
  • Prepare financial models and presentations, review financial due diligence and share purchase agreements for potential acquisition opportunities.
  • Identification of relevant tax, accounting and risk management issues, and working with specialists within those areas to support robust financial modelling.

 

Experience and Qualifications

 

Essential

 

  • A recognised professional accounting qualification, or other relevant financial qualification such as Chartered Financial Analyst.
  • Strong Excel skills and three years of post-qualification experience in financial modelling for capital investment projects is also essential for this role.
  • A commercial mind set with strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including senior and business line managers.
  • Strong communication techniques required to advocate for the key deliverables and drive consensus among stakeholders.
  • Ability to leverage relationships to influence solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a demanding workload, including appropriate prioritisation of short term and long-term deliverables.

 

Desirable

 

  • An understanding of Irish and UK energy markets would be beneficial

 

Location

 

This position will be based in Fitzwilliam 27, Dublin 2.

 

Smart Working at ESB is designed to make ‘in-person’ time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful candidate may work flexibly within the jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week. All Smart Working arrangements are subject to regular review based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the business.

Salary

 

€71,976 - €84,677
