Position Description

 

Professional Engineer, who will be part of the Electrification Team in Network Assets. The Network Development & Electrification area in ESB Networks is responsible for planning, network development, electrification and innovation. In particular, within this core business area, the Electrification Team is tasked with leading the focus on LV system development and readiness in time for the Climate Action Plan targets of at least 1 million Electric Vehicles and 600,000 Heat Pumps by 2030.

 

The specifics of this relate to delivering on the PR5 Determination of €134m LV System Development Allowance in the period 2021-2025; and alongside this, the Team is also tasked with directing and delivering on our published Electrification Strategy, acting to coordinate cross-company activities that are relevant to this space and working to support prioritised areas for progression in the PR5 period.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

The following is a non-exhaustive list of tasks the Professional Engineer will be active in:

 

  • Working within the team, support the LV System Development Allowance Manager to coordinate and deliver on all reporting metrics associated with the LV System Development Allowance, with focus areas of System Improvement work, LV design and Quality Assurance in particular.
  • Supporting the Business Owner of LV Network Investment Forecasting tool. This will involve interfacing with the regions regarding monitoring of MV/LV transformers, management of deployments, movement of monitors, and on-going support and operation of the devices.
  • User of the Smart Meter events tool to establish and package planned LV System Improvement work.
  • Supporting the data analytics workstream on issues such as customer voltage complaints, LCT related complaints, etc.
  • Supporting the LV Design workstream. Specific areas include review and implementation of solutions for dealing with historical suboptimal asset topologies such as looped services, cleated mains, etc. and on-going support and enhancement of LV Design tools.
  • Work closely with Network Assets (overhead lines, underground cables, and MV substations), Commercial section, and Smart Metering, in support of introducing changes to policy and method to design.
  • Support in scheduling and completing Quality Assurance audits to ensure the LV System Allowance is on track and appropriate.
  • Build knowledge and contribute to implementing elements of the electrification strategy as it evolves through the PR5 period, pertinent to LV network design (eTransport, eHeat, microgeneration, and flexibility).
  • Author internal and external technical articles, reports and presentation of the work ESB Networks is doing to accommodate electrification at external webinars and seminars, supporting the demonstration to policy makers, senior management and staff that ESB Networks is successfully working to enable electrification.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 

Essential

  • Excellent communication and report writing skills.
  • Ability to work and share knowledge and competencies within a team structure.
  • Self-motivated with ability to manage and prioritise own work.
  • Excellent organisation and attention to detail skills.
  • A high level of commitment and a strong work ethic with a clear focus on delivery to project safety, time, quality and cost objectives.
  • At least three years post graduate experience or equivalent work experience.

 

Desirable

  • Familiarity with key ESB Networks business systems.
  • Familiarity with ESB Networks technical & safety related policies/ procedures.
  • Familiarity with Network Assets and Company Standards.

 

 

Qualifications

 

A primary degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience is essential.

The location for this role is flexible.
