ESB Networks is committed to achieving a work environment where everyone goes home safe & sound every day. Fire poses a significant risk in our workplaces. Everything reasonably practicable must be done to ensure that all individuals at the place of work are not exposed to fire risks. The threat of fire has the potential to cause personal injury as well as disrupt normal business operations.

 

The Fire Safety Support Manager will work within the Safety, Health & Wellbeing team in ESB Networks and will be responsible for driving best practice in fire safety and emergency management across ESB Networks and supporting the business to implement the ESB Networks fire strategy and improvement plan to ensure a safe place of work. The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders including the Fire Safety Centre of Competency, the ESB Networks property team, Persons Having Control for fire safety and line management to drive a consistent and standardised approach to fire safety management across the business.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Key responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to;

 

  • Manage & support the implementation of the ESBN Fire Safety management strategy & improvement plan.
  • Drive the implementation of best practice Fire Safety management across ESBN premises & HV stations.
  • Develop plans & programmes to continuously drive Fire Safety improvements across ESBN.
  • Provide expert advice on Fire Safety matters including legislation, codes of practice and industry best practice, etc., to ensure the effective management of Fire Safety risks.
  • Work with and support the Persons Having Control for Fire Safety, Regional PICs & line managers to deliver on their Fire Safety responsibilities.
  • Represent ESBN on the Fire Safety Centre of Competency Working Group.
  • Measure & monitor compliance with current Fire Safety legislation and industry best practice.
  • Work with relevant stakeholders to oversee spending of significant fire safety related budgets.
  • Develop and maintain Fire Safety procedures & other Fire Safety related emergency documents.
  • Manage & co-ordinate completion of Fire Safety documents & plans for all premises including FS Manuals, Fire Emergency Pre-Planning forms & Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs).
  • Manage & co-ordinate completion of Fire Safety Risk Assessments (FSRAs) by competent persons across ESBN premises, HV stations & places of work.
  • Review & analyse Fire Safety Risk Assessments findings and work with the business to implement follow on actions.
  • Lead and manage a small team of external Fire Safety specialists, as necessary, to help support implementation of the ESBN Fire Safety improvement plan including Fire Safety Risk Assessments.
  • Manage & maintain a Fire Safety SharePoint site / central database of records for ESBN premises.
  • Ensure adequate number of Fire Marshals in place & trained in all premises.
  • Manage & co-ordinate the delivery of Fire Safety related training.
  • Ensure Fire Safety emergency folders are populated, maintained & kept up to date.
  • Liaise with the business to ensure Fire Safety emergency plans / evacuation plans are in place & fit for purpose across ESBN.
  • Liaise with Enterprise Services and Persons Having Control for Fire Safety to ensure all FS protection systems & firefighting equipment are designed, installed & maintained in accordance with manufacturers' instructions.
  • Carry out regular reviews to ensure scheduled Fire Safety maintenance inspections are completed.
  • Work closely with the ESBN Property team on the delivery of Fire Safety building related programmes e.g. upgrades to fire alarm systems, etc., and to ensure Fire Safety requirements are integrated into building refurb / modification works in line with budgets.
  • Drive regular fire safety related communications across ESBN.
  • Manage fire incidents on SHIELD including regular ongoing communications on findings & learnings.
  • Carry out audits / reviews to provide assurance that Fire Safety is being managed in accordance with Fire Safety standards, procedures & legislation.
  • Work with the business to drive cultural & behavioural changes in relation to Fire Safety.
  • Work closely with the rest of the Safety, Health & Well-Being team to improve safety, health and wellbeing performance. 

 

 

Experience and Qualifications

 

Essential

 

  • Third Level Qualification or Equivalent Work Experience.
  • Hold a Fire Safety Qualification or the expectation is that successful candidate acquires this qualification within 12-18 months depending on course availability.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years relevant experience 
  • Strong stakeholder management & influencing skills.
  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills and the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders, managers at all levels, staff and third parties.
  • Strong leadership capability and ability to work on one own initiative.
  • A flexible approach to work.
  • Strong problem solving & decision-making skills.

 

Desirable

 

  • Good knowledge of the Networks business
  • Prior experience in auditing and safety management
  • Experience in a health, safety or well-being capacity
  • Experience and knowledge of key safety systems & processes, such as SHIELD, Risk Assessments, etc.
  • Fire safety experience with a good understanding of fire safety legislation
  • Technical knowledge of ESB Fire Safety Systems including fire detection, fire suppression and alarm systems
  • Good IT & analytical skills (MS Word, Excel, SharePoint, Microsoft 365, etc).

The successful candidate may work flexibly within their jurisdiction with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration on at least one anchor day per week. Salary

 

Starting from €55,000 per annum
