HV Substation Commissioners x2
Position Description
HV substation commissioning is a highly specialised technical role. The principal role of a commissioner is to verify that primary, secondary, protection and control equipment meets the specification requirements and is in a fit state to be connected to the ESB system.
Key Responsibilities
- Assessment of site safety prior to engaging in commissioning activities and coordinate the work schedule with site staff as appropriate. Assist in developing site-specific risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) for projects.
- Commission HV and MV equipment in line with the Commissioning Policy, specifications and the Commissioning Standard.
- Commission control and protection equipment in line with the Commissioning Policy, specifications and the Commissioning Standard.
- Complete functional verification of protection scheme designs and confirm compliance with approved design standards, elementaries, specifications and Commissioning Standard.
- Coordinate, plan, and deliver commissioning projects.
- Create and maintain commissioning records as required by the Commissioning Standard.
- Assist in the continual development of commissioning procedures, test plans and test reports.
- Contribute to fault investigations and reporting.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- Minimum 3 years' relevant experience is essential.
- An appropriate third level professional qualification (Engineering) or equivalent and relevant experience (of a minimum of 3 years).
- Knowledge of commissioning standards, principles and procedures.
- Knowledge of commissioning of Transmission and Distribution Systems.
- Knowledge and experience of operational procedures and the operation of substations.
- Knowledge of the design and operating mechanisms of primary plant.
- Knowledge of specific Operations Technology, e.g. SCADA, OMS.
- Knowledge of ESB Networks Assets and ESB Networks business.
- Good knowledge of ESB Networks rules for work in HV Substations.
- Good knowledge of HV Substation design and processes.
- Knowledge of power system protection principles, protection devices and associated software applications.
- Ability to work as part of a high-performance team.
Desirable
A full clean driving licence.
Location
An appropriate base location will be determined in consultation with the successful candidate and dependant on current regional requirements. This is a site-based role and regional/nationwide travel will be a requirement of the role.
Reporting to
The Regional Senior Commissioning Team Leader, Networks Commissioning, Contracting Partners Group, PD, ESB Networks.

Salary
€49,000 to €56,000 per annum
