Position Description 

 

Application Development is responsible for the design, build and implementation of quality software products that enable the transformation of ESB to a world class Digital Utility. Our teams work across many different types of delivery structures and delivery methods e.g. Scrum, Kanban and Waterfall.  

 

In Application Development we get exposure to the latest trends in software and technology development using Microsoft Azure technology to build new Cloud based business services, Azure DevOps to enable the rapid deployment of new business services and Azure API-M to build our integration points across internal and external business services.  

 

Our software development stack continues to evolve and currently we build new solutions across multiple development frameworks and technology using .Net/C#, React JS, Bootstrap/JQuery, Java and SAP Fiori / SAP ABAP. 

 

We are currently inviting applications for a number of Developer positions in our Digital Development team. 

 

 

Key Responsibilities 

 

The successful candidates will be responsible developing for ESB’s Digital Platform architecture which contains the following components;

 

  • .NET Web Applications (MVC and Web API) 

  • Responsive UI Design 

  • Web Services using RESTful APIs 

  • Use of Microsoft Azure for Platform as a Service components 

  • Use of Azure DevOps for Agile Development  

 

This roles are hands-on and could be assigned to projects to develop any architectural significant components (e.g. Identity and access management solutions).  

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience 

 

Essential 

 

  • Experience in Software development, including experience in developing Microsoft .NET C# applications, ideally external facing web Applications using Microsoft .NET MVC5 and Web API frameworks
  • Experience in developing and using web services ideally REST or SOAP APIs
  • Experience of software development lifecycle, including solution design, development and release management 

  • Familiarity with unit testing, source control, and good software engineering practices

  • Familiarity of securing websites and implementing secure, robust code

  • Ability to take high level tasks, plan steps to implement them, and complete those steps independently

  • A proven track record of excellent stakeholder management skills

  • Strong communication skills

 

Desirable 

 

  • Use of Agile software development ideally using SCRUM methodology 

  • Use of Microsoft Azure Platform as a Service  

  • A good working knowledge of .NET Framework/Core, SQL Server and IIS 

  • A good working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML 5 and CSS3 

  • Knowledge of a JavaScript framework (Angular, React, Vue) will be an added advantage 

  • Use of Microsoft Visual Studio Team Services / Azure DevOps 

  • Use of Identity and Access management software 

 

Above all, you must be innovative in your approach and be able to demonstrate your ability to actively contribute to a team that delivers results. 

 

 

Qualifications 

 

  • Third level qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience is essential
     

 

Location 

 

Base Location: Limerick or Fitzwilliam 27, ESB’s new Head Office, Dublin (Smart/Remote Working suitable)

The successful candidate may combine remote / smart working within the jurisdiction (Republic of Ireland), with attendance at base for in-person collaboration, the frequency of which is agreed with the manager and subject to ongoing review.

Salary

 

€44,000- €65,000 per annum.
