Position Description

 

The National 20Kv Upgrade Work Programme currently underway, is a key enabler of the Networks for Net Zero Strategy, that will deliver enhanced capacity and resilience across our Network into the future. The 20Kv upgrade team within National Programme Delivery, ESBN now requires a Project Engineer to ensure the ongoing timely delivery of the expanding portfolio of pipeline projects over the PR6 period and beyond.

 

The successful applicant will be responsible for leading the safe and timely delivery of major construction projects, that may incorporate Overhead Line, Underground Cable and HV Station work-streams.

 

In particular, the role will demand effective Project Management skills across the lifecycle of the project portfolio together with strong stakeholder management skills across the ESB Networks and Contracting Partner organisations

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Perform duties with a strong safety and quality focus in daily management of Framework Contractors (e.g. overhead line/underground)
  • Ensure a focused project management- based approach to ensure projects get delivered in line with expected Financial, Scope and target timelines.
  • Engage extensively across all regions to ensure smooth delivery of large, complex projects in collaboration with local areas
  • Where required, coordinate with third party stakeholders (e.g. Local Authorities, Landowners etc.) to resolve any project implementation issues.
  • Support Pre-Construction/scoping phase of projects to ensure construction readiness of project portfolio, through close engagement with Network Planners and Design Teams
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety Legislation and relevant Environmental Legislation while carrying out the above activities
  • Work closely with existing supervisory, network technician and technical staff across National Programme Delivery team, while delivering objectives above.
  • The 20Kv Upgrade Manager may assign additional duties from time to time.

  

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 

Essential

 

    • 5+ years relevant work experience is essential
    • Experience working on MV/LV Network projects
    • Contractor Management Experience
    • Managing Safety/Quality/Costs in project environment
    • Good General IT Skills in Microsoft Word/Excel/Microsoft Project
    • Driving License
    • Geographic Flexibility and willingness to travel given the national profile of projects

 

Desirable

 

  • Knowledge of ESBN MV Overhead Line/Cable Design & Construction Policies/Standards
  • Experience with ESB HV Stations

 

Qualifications

 

Either 3rd Level qualification or equivalent work experience (of a minimum of 5+ years) is essential.

 

 

Location

 

Flexible. Base location will be confirmed once a successful candidate has been identified.

 

Smart Working at ESB is designed to make ‘in-person’ time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful candidate may work flexibly within the jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week. All Smart Working arrangements are subject to regular review based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the business.

Salary 

€59,000 to €70,000 per annum
