Position Description


ESB Trading (ESBT) delivers essential asset optimisation services, risk management and wholesale market access to ESB Group and to its third-party customers. As such ESBT plays a critical role in delivering value to ESB through coordinated management of its Generation and Supply businesses’ commercial positions. ESBT is organised into a number of teams comprising Front, Middle (Risk) and Back Offices along with Finance, Modelling and Business Support. 


The Financial Regulation Compliance Manager is a critical role in the risk function and is responsible for ensuring that ESB Trading is compliant with all facets of Financial Market Regulation (EMIR, REMIT, MiFiD, MAR). The role is within the Middle Office (Risk) team and will involve working closely with teams across ESB to proactively manage ESBT’s financial regulatory obligations.



Key Responsibilities


Responsibilities will cover the items below:


  • Advise the Trading SMT on regulatory developments to ensure compliance risk is minimised while ensuring solutions are cost effective and efficient
  • Provide technical advice to ESB Trading teams on Financial Regulation requirements
  • Translate principle-based regulation into practical requirements for all impacted Trading processes (i.e. trade initiation, capture & settlement, Trading policies)
  • Stay abreast of regulatory developments, including developing a network of cross-industry contacts
  • Work collaboratively with Group Treasury, Group Risk, GT Regulation to ensure interpretation and implementation of requirements is coordinated across the Group
  • Ensure compliance process is documented and risks identified and mitigated
  • Manage queries that arise from Regulatory Authorities and the Central Bank
  • Report on financial regulation to internal Risk Committees and to other senior stakeholders
  • Play an active role in shaping ESB Trading’s activities through provision of insight and constructive challenge



Knowledge, Skills and Experience



  • Minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience
  • Knowledge of financial instruments and their application
  • The ability to comprehend complex Trading issues involving processes, people, systems & finance
  • Proven ability to work on own initiative and deliver results to strict deadlines
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving capability
  • An interest in working in a fast-changing business environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills





A third level qualification with strong analytical content is desirable but not essential, or relevant work experience is required.





The role is based in ESB Head Office, Gateway, East Wall Road and may entail business travel.



Reporting to


Trading Risk Manager, ESB Trading





€60,000 to €70,000 per annum





Flexible working arrangements may be considered within the operational requirements of the role.
