Position Description


Asset Development is tasked with identifying, developing and constructing new investment opportunities on behalf of ESB Group. Both the Offshore Wind and Hydrogen team and the Flexgen and Storage team within Asset Development have successfully developed or are in the process of developing a number of projects in the UK and Ireland, and are actively seeking to acquire or develop further projects in both Ireland and abroad. Development activities comprise identifying and developing opportunities to enhance and expand the generation portfolio to achieve the ESB growth targets – bringing the projects from Concept Stage through to Financial Investment Decision. 


The successful applicant will be responsible for managing new projects in Ireland and/or Great Britain. The role will entail the oversight and co-ordination of multi-disciplinary teams ranging from external partners through to internal teams including civil engineering, planning & environmental services, electrical engineering and energy yield analysis.



Key Responsibilities


  • Supporting the development of specific Project(s) from initiation of Concept Phase through to Development Phase
  • Oversight of third-party partners and providers of technical services 
  • Implementation of Health & Safety policies and procedures
  • Developing plans to assist with landowner negotiations (road access, onsite, cable and overhead line wayleaves, etc.)
  • Development of initial Site Feasibility plans
  • Assisting with Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR) and planning application preparation
  • External stakeholder management including local communities and local authorities
  • Regular management reporting
  • Familiarity with and ensuring compliance with Project Management procedures
  • Assisting the development of the business case for new projects



Knowledge, Skills and Experience



  • At least 3 years relevant industry experience
  • Knowledge and experience of Project Management practice
  • Knowledge and Experience of the wind industry in Great Britain & Europe
  • Understanding of power generation business and renewable energy technology
  • Experience of stakeholder engagement and management
  • Good interpersonal skills



  • Proficiency in using GIS or similar programmes
  • Knowledge of AutoCad Civil 3D, ArcGIS, QGIS, Wind Pro
  • Knowledge and experience of the Planning and Environmental Consenting systems in Great Britain





  • 3rd level qualification or equivalent (Engineering, Business or Planning related discipline desirable)
  • Or equivalent work experience is required.





The successful candidate will be based at ESB Head Office in Dublin but will be expected to regularly travel to Great Britain (mostly Scotland) for field work and meetings, as required.

It is not anticipated that a staff member still on probation (either new entrant probation or a probation from a previous promotion) will be eligible to apply for a promotional vacancy. Typically, an individual must have completed their probation and should have at least two years’ experience in their current role before being eligible to apply for a promotion. An application from a staff member who does not meet the above criteria must have the approval of both the senior line manager and the HRM within the BU before progressing to application.

While initial appointment will be to this position, rotation within Generation and Trading may be a feature of the role.
