Safety Technical & Services Supervisor, Southwest Ireland
Position Description
The Safety Technical & Services Supervisor’s role is to support regional and local management, staff and contractors to achieve their overall safety objectives and to ensure safety performance targets are achieved within ESB Networks. The Safety Technical & Services Supervisor’s is responsible for driving safety improvement across the region. This includes, monitoring safety trends, driving safety initiatives, measuring and reporting on progress of safety targets, completing investigations and reports, engaging with contractors, staff, management across the organisation and to provide guidance to regional developers/large customers on safety related matters.
The Safety Technical & Services Supervisor’s will provide safety and technical expertise to support the ESB Networks Regional Manager, Project Leaders, Area Supervisors, Supervisors and team members to maximise safety performance.
The Safety Technical & Services Supervisor’s leads and promotes a safety culture amongst staff and contractors so that safe behaviour becomes the norm and that the business unit target of zero lost time injuries is achieved.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure that staff and contractor personnel complete work safely to the required standards.
- Carry out safety and quality audits as per agreed audit schedule and provide feedback on performance.
- Monitor and use the Safety Management System available to Staff & Contractors and promotes and monitors Local Safety Plans to achieve safety improvements.
- Co-ordinate staff, contractor and public safety improvement plans.
- Promote a positive safety culture, regionally and Lead Safety Towards the ambition of Zero Accidents.
- Promoting Public Safety Policy.
- Develop terms of reference for any safety, operational or environmental incidents which may occur, regionally.
- Determine the appropriate HRN and “P-rating” for incidents.
- Lead investigations into incidents where required.
- Audit Safety Standards and Performance.
- Manage the OHSMS Internal Audit schedule, regionally.
- Promoting safety culture with contractors and others.
- Identify and develop “Route to Approval” documentation and highlight the according necessary training for regional staff with their supervisors and management.
- Work with Safety Advisors and team members to ensure that a high safety management structure and organisation is in place and operating as needed.
- Facilitate assessments on critical approvals and assist/coach staff with in-training approval logs where needed.
- Provides regular reporting and KPI on safety performance with Staff & Contractors.
- Participate and interface with Safe and Sound teams.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- Advanced Level 6 Electrical Craft Certificate/A suitable Level 7 or higher qualification in Electrical, Electrical Services, Electronics, Mechanical or other suitable alternative qualification with a sizeable electrical theory content.
- Experience and knowledge of Electrical Safety Rules.
- Understands and applies the relevant Quality Management Standards.
- Assessment of Risk and Application of appropriate controls.
- Knowledge of LV, MV, HV network operations under normal and under fault conditions.
- Familiarity with Business Systems.
- Knowledge of Safety Legislation.
- Knowledge of Contract Management Procedures.
- Awareness and engagement with Safety Systems & Processes.
- Full clean EU driving licence. Travel will be required.
Desirable
- Experience and knowledge of ESB Assets.
Location
The base location is flexible within the Southwest Region. Travel, both in-region and nationally, will be required.
Reporting To
The Technical Manager, Southwest Region, ESB Networks Customer and Projects Delivery.

Salary
€59,000 - €70,000 per annum.
