Position Description
The successful candidate will play a key role in deployment, operation maintenance and future development of ESBs National Telecommunications Network.
This role bridges hands-on Telecoms fieldwork with advanced IT and Digital skills.
The successful candidate will deploy and maintain critical telecoms infrastructure, as well as configure and troubleshoot programmable hardware units using both host and virtual computer environments.
The ideal candidateis a self-starter, a resourceful problem-solver, equally comfortable and experienced working with hand-tools and device installations on-site, as well as creating and editing configuration files on programmable hardware devices and demonstrate project management capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Deploy and integrate new communications infrastructure across HV substations, generation stations, solar/wind farms, remote hill sites, and area offices.
- Edit, validate, and deploy configuration files for programmable units.
- Including RTUs, Multiplexers, Microwave P2P Radios, Polling Radios & Satellite Modems.
- Configure, test and support SCADA Systems and RTUs using bespoke testing equipment and software.
- Maintain and troubleshoot a variety of Operational Telecoms infrastructure including:
- Fibre Multiplexers, Microwave P2P Radio, pLTE Radio, Digital Polling Radio, IP Routers/Switches, IPT/Analogue Voice Telephony and associated fibre/copper cabling.
- Support and maintain 48VDC and 220VAC Inverter & UPS backup power systems.
- Provide project management support & coordination for telecoms initiatives across all ESB Group.
- On-call or availability will likely be a feature of this role.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential
- A “Safety First” mindset.
- Third-level qualification in an electrical, telecommunications, IT discipline OR minimum three years’ relevant experience to the aforementioned Key Responsibilities .
- Proven proficiency editing configuration files and deploying, modifying and upgrading programmable hardware units.
- Proven hands-on experience using Telecoms-specific and general hand-tools.
- Strong Microsoft Windows Operating and File System knowledge.
- Strong understanding of host vs. virtual computer environments.
- Proven knowledge of 48VDC and 220VAC Inverter & UPS backup power systems.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organisational skills.
- Adaptability, flexibility, and a collaborative approach to teamwork.
- Full clean driving licence.
Desirable
- Development or reviewing of safety documentation.
- Stakeholder engagement and/or client-facing project work.
- Formal project management experience or qualifications.
- Valid SafePass.
- Familiarity with and/or experience working in High Voltage Station or Industrial environments
Location
ESB Networks Killarney or Tralee but supporting the wider Southwest region including Cork, a flexible reporting location may be considered within the Kerry/Cork region.

Salary
€48,000 - €56,000 per annum.
