Cyber Security Specialist
Position Description
The purpose of the role is to help maintain a strong cyber security posture across ESB Networks Assets Systems. It will cover a range of activities including supporting ESBN management in the delivery of the cyber security plan, assisting in the audit and review process and proactively managing emerging threats that could impact the Operational Technology environment. The successful candidate will carry out, monitor and improve the cybersecurity processes and controls in place within Operations Systems, to facilitate NIS2 Directive compliance. They will work closely with the system vendors, Corporate Cybersecurity, Telecoms and ITD teams.
As a subject matter expert, they will provide support to the OT and IT teams by helping to identify emerging threats, conducting risk assessments and establishing how best to mitigate the associated risks.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and stay current on NIS2 Directive regulations and industry cybersecurity trends and also help identify potential NIS Directive compliance gaps in our systems and establish mitigation plans including remediation program to mitigate
- Perform ongoing monitoring to ensure operations systems cybersecurity processes and technology solutions continue to support NIS2 Directive compliance
- Coordinate with the Systems teams, Corporate Cybersecurity (Enterprise Services), Telecoms and IT teams to ensure systems processes and technical solutions meet cybersecurity requirements. This also includes working with the above teams on cybersecurity issues and incidents and on cyber security improvement initiatives
- Keep incident runbooks and DR plans current. Manage inventory of network device information and configurations for the systems
- Develop status reports and metrics to provide visibility on overall cybersecurity posture and NIS2 Directive compliance status
- Preparation of documentation in support of audits and compliance to Corporate and/or NIS2 Directive requirements. Support interactions with internal audit and external regulatory bodies during audits or other required meetings
- Work closely with vendors to complete reviews, vulnerability assessments, mitigations & other various cybersecurity related activates as needed
- Monitor system performance, connectivity, resource utilization and alert logs from Tenable Security Centre. Assist with system upgrades including patches and security configurations
- Carrying out cyber security risk assessments for new or existing OT systems. Perform rule reviews on Operation Systems firewalls
- Provide subject matter expertise in cybersecurity and help broaden knowledge of other staff members
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment to pinpoint root causes and devise solutions with minimal oversight
- Ability to coordinate multi assignments and manage deadlines
Desirable
- Ideally, an Engineering background with experience working in an Electrical, Telecoms or Control and Instrumentation discipline having knowledge of a typical SCADA control system
- Experience in cyber security concepts gained from working within an Operational Technology environment
- Knowledge of communication protocols (IEC 101, IEC 104 etc.) that interact with Control Systems
- An understanding of security frameworks e.g., NIS Directive, IEC 602443 and Purdue Enterprise Reference Architecture
- Understanding of security principles and knowledge of cyber security technologies
- Understanding of network architecture and topologies and be able to perform monitoring and trouble shooting of cyber security problems
- Strong level of understanding of IT/OT security principles, technologies, and best practices
Qualifications
- Either 3rd Level qualification or equivalent work experience (min 7-10 years) is essential.
Location
ESB Networks Leopardstown office. Tailored working arrangements may be feasible and will be positively considered within the operational requirements of the role.

Salary
€69,000 - €81,000 per annum.
