Vacancy Number:  29270
Category:  Human Resources
Job Type:  Full-time

Position Description

The Large Customer Manager is a leadership role with strategic accountability for ESB Networks’ approach to large demand customers. The role is responsible for setting the strategic direction, operating model, governance and performance framework for the large customer connection journey.

The scale, complexity and strategic importance of large customer applications has increased significantly in recent years, driven by multi-site developments, staged MIC requirements, decarbonisation-related demand, capacity constraints and customers of national economic significance. This is creating increased demand for senior customer engagement, coordinated internal delivery, robust commercial and contractual support, and clear performance visibility across the connection process.

The Large Customer Manager will lead ESB Networks’ response to these challenges by developing a more transparent, consistent and scalable approach to large customer engagement. The role will work across ESB Networks to improve the customer journey, shape product and process improvements, support commercial policy development, and ensure that large customer requirements are managed in a way that balances customer outcomes, network integrity, regulatory obligations and long-term strategic priorities.

As a Large Customer Project Manager, the role requires strong strategic thinking, commercial judgement, senior stakeholder management and the ability to lead change across organisational boundaries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop and inspire a multi-disciplinary team, building organisational capability to respond to the increasing scale, complexity and pace of change in the large customer area.

  • Set the strategic direction and operating model for large customer engagement, including assessment of the proper scope of the large customer team, governance, resourcing, digital enablement, customer experience and performance management.
  • Develop a strategic approach to customer segmentation and relationship management, informed by industry groupings, customer needs, government policy and regulatory priorities.
  • Lead cross-functional improvement of the end-to-end large customer connection process, ensuring clear ownership, coordinated handovers and transparent customer communications.
  • Work with relevant business units to evolve ESB Networks’ large customer product and service offering, including the transition of pilot connection approaches into business-as-usual where appropriate.
  • Define and maintain the resource model required to deliver large customer outcomes effectively and sustainably.
  • Establish service expectations, performance measures and reporting arrangements to monitor progress, risks, customer outcomes and forward demand trends.
  • Ensure robust controls, reporting and assurance are in place to meet regulatory, safety, customer, commercial and governance obligations.
  • Represent ESB Networks at senior-level engagements with external stakeholders, including government departments, the CRU, industry representative bodies, local authorities and strategically significant customers.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders across ESB Networks to ensure joined-up delivery of large customer outcomes.
  • Oversee customer engagement initiatives, including communications, webinars, clinics and relevant ESB Networks website content.
  • Provide clear, timely and insightful reporting to senior management on performance, risks, trends, emerging issues and forward outlook.
  • Monitor emerging customer, technology, policy and regulatory developments and proactively shape ESB Networks’ response.
