Position Description

 

Telecommunications are transforming our lives in the way we live and work and are essential to the remote management of systems and assets. ESB Networks Telecoms group has 100 staff providing the critical operational telecom networks needed to deliver the communication systems required to control the distribution, transmission and generation systems.

 

Networks Telecoms deliver this by operating and managing the largest private telecommunications network in Ireland and are among a leading group of European utilities building our own private mobile network for operations. These initiatives are a critical part of our move to Smart Networks and the digitisation of ESB.

 

The Network Services Team located within Networks Telecoms are the service owner for a range of telecoms equipment including PDH/SDH fibre multiplexers, microwave radio links, SCADA UHF polling radio, Satellite based SCADA network, Operational IP network and future LTE network

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Commissioning and support of telecommunications infrastructure and services.
  • Diagnostics, trouble shooting and problem solving of system faults and failures
  • Maintaining a strong safety, quality, and performance culture
  • Promote innovation and knowledge sharing within the team
  • Attendance on site for fault and project-based activities
  • Assist with preparation of technical specifications, supplier tenders and work on tender evaluations.
  • Assist with preparation of solution designs for telecommunications systems and infrastructure for subsequent deployment.
  • Assist with preparation of project documentation, including capital approvals, customer proposals and solution designs.
  • Preparation of health and safety documentation relevant to your work area.
  • Management and co-ordination of various telecommunications contractors.
  • Recording of “as built” records for deployed services and systems.
  • Ensuring professional, timely and productive communication with all stakeholders (EirGrid, PMO, other Network and Service Deployment Teams, management, internal service providers, vendors, 3rd party suppliers) for all faults, project works and technical queries

 

 

Experience and Qualifications

 

Essential

 

  •  Full driving license as travel to site will be a feature of this role
  • At least 5 years relevant experience 
  • Third level qualification or equivalent work experience 
  • Familiarity with Telecommunications technologies such as Optical Multiplexers, TCP/IP, PDH/SDH and DWDM
  • Familiarity with radio technologies (microwave/UHF), satellite networks and network synchronization concepts
  • Knowledge of Internet protocol (IP) Networks
  • Excellent interpersonal and written skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrate a strong focus on safety in the workplace in compliance with Health & Safety rules, particularly as work may involve hazardous environments such as High Voltage substations
  • Self-motivated and capable of working on their own initiative.
  • Strong team player

 

Desirable

 

  • CCNA level certification (or equivalent) or progress towards achieving this qualification
  • Tender specification preparation
  • Business case preparation
  • Project Management qualification

Salary

 

Starting from €55,000 per annum
