Position Description
Telecommunications are transforming our lives in the way we live and work and are essential to the remote management of systems and assets. ESB Networks Telecoms group has 100 staff providing the critical operational telecom networks needed to deliver the communication systems required to control the distribution, transmission and generation systems.
Networks Telecoms deliver this by operating and managing the largest private telecommunications network in Ireland and are among a leading group of European utilities building our own private mobile network for operations. These initiatives are a critical part of our move to Smart Networks and the digitisation of ESB.
As a result, an exciting role has become available for candidates looking to be part of the innovation and work needed to build the next generation utility grade telecommunications network for the organisation.
This role is within the Networks Telecoms Fibre Programme Delivery team. The successful candidate will play a key role in the deployment, commissioning, maintenance, and future growth of ESB’s national telecommunications network.
Key Responsibilities
- Involvement in the deployment and integration of new infrastructure into ESB’s Telecoms network.
- Responsible for installation, commissioning and maintenance of Fibre Optic, Copper Network, and structured cabling.
- Prioritisation of faults and urgent tasks, ensuring tasks are updated and completed in a safe and timely manner.
- Coordination of 3rd party contractors.
- Support, maintain and fault find fibre and copper communications network.
- Partake in a strong safety, quality, and high-performance team culture.
- Project management support for telecommunications projects in ESB Networks, ESB Group and EirGrid.
- Engagement and communication with various Networks Telecoms stakeholders in a professional manner.
- Partake in training and development activities within the team or the wider Networks Telecoms business.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- Either a 3rd Level qualification (NFQ Level 6/ 7) in an electrical/ telecommunications/ IT discipline or equivalent work experience from a trade background.
- COFI training or equivalent.
- Full clean driving licence and access to a car.
- Safety focused approach to work duties.
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail.
- Adaptability and flexibility.
Desirable
- Any Health & Safety experience/ qualifications.
- Experience working with fibre optic cables.
- Experience working on electrical systems.
- Experience with preparation of safety documentation.
- Experience with stakeholder engagement.
- Awareness of telecommunications technologies.
- Project experience.
- Familiarity with HV environments.
Location
This position will be based in ESB Leopardstown Road
Smart Working at ESB is designed to make ‘in-person’ time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful candidate may work flexibly within the jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week. All Smart Working arrangements are subject to regular review based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the business.

Salary
€41,000 to €48,000 per annum
