Telecoms, Design Engineer
Position Description
The Design Engineer will deliver day-to-day design activities to facilitate the delivery of HV CP Work programmes , Capital, Repayable and Asset replacement programmes of work in Networks Telecoms.
The Design Engineer will provide support to the appointed telecoms PSDP contact person during non regular works projects to ensure all design related safety documentation and safety file content is available, up to date and in compliance with legislative and duty holding responsibilities.
The Design Engineer will contribute to the production of Scope of Works, associated costings estimates, design risk assessments and design pack generation as part of all telecoms projects designs which will involve interfacing with subject matter experts, technology service owners and delivery teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Stakeholder Liaison.
- Ensure all design activities are carried out in line with ESBN policies & standards.
- Contribute to the development of content for design packs to delivery teams.
- Production of and reviews telecoms Scope of Work & costs for Capital Approvals, design risk assessments, providing the required information to stakeholders.
- Actively takes on role of designer and supports PSDP duty holder for non regular works projects to ensure design and specification activity comply with safety legislation.
- Undertake site surveys and visits as required for project meetings and design stage scoping exercises.
- Additional duties as required by line manager.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- Level 7/8 Engineering qualification.
- Minimum of 2 years relevant experience is essential.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and experience in a technical, design process or project management functional area.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with proven communication skills, both written and verbal, to business and technology audiences.
- Experience working collaboratively with a geographically dispersed group as well as centralised office based teams.
- Holds Technology and Network architecture knowledge in Telecoms (1 of or selection) – Utility grade multiplexers and teleprotection services, microwave and polling radio systems, cellular LTE and Optical DWDM systems. Layer 3 routers, IP/MPLS and MPLS/TP architectures, Utility fibre network design.
- Full clean EU driving licence. Travel is a requirement of the role.
Desirable
- Chartered Engineer or active in route pathway in obtaining a professional title, ie CEng.
- Telecoms and/or Networking Certifications, ie CCNA , MPLS/TP, Wireless Microwave, Cellular LTE.
- Designer role training/certification and role demonstration supporting PSDP.
- Knowledge of relevant policies, standards, procedures, design standards including Health & Safety legislation.
- Experience in the preparation and production of documentation such as design Scope of Works, costing estimates and /or business cases and design packs.
- Experience in scheduling work and deliverables – MS Project.
- Extensive IT and digital skills including MS teams and MS power app’s.
Location
Leopardstown Rd, Sandyford, Co Dublin, however flexible arrangements will be considered for this role. Travel will be a feature of this role.

Salary
€48,000 – €56,000 per annum
