Position Description 

ESB has been active in the GB energy sector since 1992. Currently ESB operates generation power plant, a customer supply business (SoEnergy), EV charging structure (ESB Energy) and a business looking at maximising value to major energy users (Smart Energy Systems). These business units are set up to meet the ESB strategic aim to be Net Zero by 2040.

ESB has a vacancy for a GB Manager. This role, based in London, is critical to achieving ESB’s ambitions in the UK through public affairs, stakeholder engagement, and market intelligence.

This role will work flexibly within a small team in our London office and involve travel both within the UK and our locations in Ireland. Participation in out-of-hours events will be required in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Protect and enhance the ESB brand as a credible investor and operator in the market.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including decision makers in governmental and regulatory bodies as well as influencers and Trade Associations.

  • Be an advocate for ESB by engaging with working groups, industry committees, advisory panels and with energy policy decision-making authorities.

  • Communicate ESB’s strategy and its context to relevant decision makers and influencers.

  • Monitor and analyse developments in the UK energy policy and energy markets.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure ESB is prepared to address emerging issues and opportunities in the market.

  • Identify policy issues that affect ESB’s assets, and future expansion strategy for the UK and work with colleagues across the business to determines ESB’s preferred outcome on relevant policy topics.

 

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • 10+ years’ experience working at senior level in UK energy industry

  • Significant experience and expertise in a government relations or regulatory function, preferably within the generation sector.

  • Proven analytical ability specifically for working with complex arguments on policy and regulatory topics.

  • Demonstrate ability to contribute to corporate Strategic and Policy objectives in GB.

  • Proven record of developing and communicating effective advocacy strategies.

  • Strong communication skills with strong emotional intelligence.

Essential Qualifications

  • A primary Engineering or Business degree or equivalent work experience.

 

Location

This position will be based in ESB's London Office, Eastcastle Street, London. (The applicant must be commutable to Central London).

Salary

£75,000 - £93,000
