Position Description

 

Electrification of transport is a key pillar of ESB’s Net Zero Strategy – reducing the carbon impact from transport and improving air-quality while growing our business. ESB builds owns and operates the publicly available Electric Vehicle (EV) charging networks across Ireland and the UK. ESB plans to significantly grow the capacity of its EV charging networks with already over 1000 EV charging stations. Currently in Britian there are over 320 HPC, Rapid and AC charging stations operational across the cities of London, Coventry, Birmingham and growing nationwide with roll out of its HPC hubs. A continual pipeline of additional sites is coming online and these numbers will grow significantly in the next few years. ESB’s strategy, consistent with our role as a pioneer in Electromobility and our ambition to capture value from the global trend in electrification of transport, is to continue to expand our EV charging infrastructure network.

ESB ecars Operations team is responsible for managing the performance and availability of ESB’s EV charging networks in Ireland, Northern Ireland and Great Britain.  This involves active performance management and timely fault correction to SLA, reporting fault and complaint analysis, management of preventative and corrective maintenance programs and supporting the expansion and upgrade of ESB’s EV Networks.

 

This role will support and coordinate with the Senior Operations Engineer for the GB market. Reporting to the Head of Operations with support from contractors and service providers.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Reliability of Network: Ensure ecars’ public EV charging networks operate at 99% reliability in all jurisdictions.
  • Safety Practice: Consider and ensure high standards are applied with respect to equipment, staff, contractor, and public safety.
  • Contractor and Supplier Management. Management of maintenance contractors and charge station suppliers to agreed KPIs.  Draft tender documentation specifications, conduct tender evaluations and input into procurement strategies as required.
  • Customer Focus: Continually strive to ensure that the ESB ecars infrastructure operates in a safe, dependable, and customer-friendly manner. Monitor and promptly address any issues affecting the EV charging infrastructure network.
  • Teamwork: Work collaboratively within ESB ecars and other cross-functional teams to ensure a strong customer focus is maintained.
  • Telecommunications: Work with our communications providers to ensure reliable communications with the charging infrastructure.  Identify and resolve communications issues as they arise.
  • Analytics & Reporting: Evaluate and produce analytical reports on the performance of the GB networks and on individual equipment.  Identify individual and type issues, perform root cause analyses and determine required actions to get the best possible performance.
  • Stakeholder Relationships: Develop strong working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders such as Local Authorities, Government Bodies, landowners and service providers.
  • Technical Knowledge & Development: Keep abreast of new and existing technologies and standards and their potential impact on ESB ecars and the wider ESB Group.
  • Process and Procedure Developments: To continuously review current practices with a view to improve existing processes and procedures based on the feedback and analysis conducted.

 

 

Experience and Qualifications 

 

Essential

 

  • Degree level qualification in electrical, electronic or telecommunications engineering and experience in IT systems or equivalent with experience relevant to this position.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar role
  • Experience in Contractor Management
  • Ability to work on own initiative with a high degree of self-direction.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and analysing electrical equipment problems.
  • Full Clean UK Drivers Licence
  • Ability to manage inputs from a range of disciplines and to agree delivery programmes.
  • Strong awareness of relevant safety obligations and promotion of safety culture.
  • Ability to work well within a team as well as to work on own initiative and lead in aspects of work when required.
  • Adaptable working approach with a clear focus on customer service.
  • Contractor and supplier management, preferably in a multiple-site environment.
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills.

 

Desirable

 

  • Practical knowledge of electrical design and/or construction site experience is an advantage.

 

 

Location

 

The role will be based in London/ Coventry with occasional travel to Ireland.

 

 

Reporting to

 

The EV Network Operations Engineer will report to the Head of Operations, ESB ecars.

Salary 

 

 £30,500 - £38,000
