Contractor Safety and Technical Development Lead, Overhead Lines

Position Description

The Contractor Safety & Technical Development lead leads and promotes a safety culture amongst Overhead Lines (OHL) contractors so that safe behaviour becomes the norm and that the business unit target of zero lost time injuries is achieved. Ensuring capability and competence of contracting resources is a key component of the role. The Contractor Safety and Technical Development Lead will manage all assessment, and approval needs of all OHL framework contractors in an efficient manner and to the highest safety standards. 

The Contractor Safety Technical Development lead will provide safety and technical expertise support to the CPG Training and Approvals team Lead and is responsible for driving performance improvement throughout the OHL function. 

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the evaluation of OHL contractor candidates for safety critical roles under the electrical safety rules (PICW, TCO, WO, Operator)
• Maintain the integrity of the CPG Contractor Approvals Assessment Programme.
• Ensure a safe working environment for staff, contractors, and the public
• Support the Contractor Training and Approvals Team Leader in the development of CPG Safety strategy to ensure safety training and assessment policies and procedures remain relevant to our contractor delivery strategy
• Conduct safety, technical and practical assessments on all OHL contractors.
• Supports and coaches’ contractors on training, standards, and performance
• Use appropriate IT systems to assist in the management of day-to-day activities
• Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Provide clear, timely communications to OHL contractors and invite feedback
• Carrying out and scheduling safety and quality audits per agreed audit schedules and feeding back audit performance to staff and contractors.
• Flexibility in managing additional tasks, as may be assigned from time to time
• Following ESBs Code of Ethics “Our Code” 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Essential

• Relevant OHL PICW experience working under the ESB Electrical Safety Rules
• Knowledge of ESB Network Assets
• Knowledge of HV, MV and LV Networks
• Knowledge of Company Poling standards
• Knowledge of the ESBN Safety Rules and Procedures
• Knowledge of ESBN Network Operations and Procedures
• 5-7 relevant years’ experience
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Full clean driving licence

Desirable

• ESB IT Systems and Applications knowledge
• Quality Management Experience

Qualifications

• Advanced Level 6 Electrical Craft Certificate or equivalent work experience is essential

Location

The position is a national role and therefore the base location is flexible. Nationwide travel will be a feature of this role.

The successful candidate may work flexibly within their jurisdiction with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration on at least one anchor day per week. Salary 

€57,000 to €67,000 per annum
