Sustainability and Environmental Specialist
Position description

The role of Sustainability and Environmental Specialist involves providing environmental support and direction to the sustainability and environment group and wider business units. It also focusses on delivering and managing environmental audits of our nationwide activities and those of our contractors as well as managing key aspects of our environmental incident response works.
Key Responsibilities
- Fully embrace ESB Networks Safety & Environmental culture and compliance with all relevant health, safety and environmental obligations.
- Take a lead role within the team in management and delivery of the environmental audit schedule including coordination of our external regional environmental advisors.
- Take a lead role within the team in management and delivery of key aspects of our emergency response and remediation of environmental incidents which can occur across the country. Such incidents require immediate (same day) response to minimise the impact and extent of the pollution.
- Support the operation, development and maintenance of various aspects and registers in the Environmental Management Systems (EMS). Support the team in the collation of data, information, preparation and delivery of environmental compliance reporting.
- Take a lead role in the management and delivery of relevant environmental documentation through OneSource in a timely manner ensuring the document is robust and fit for use by the business.
- Take a lead role in the management of environmental aspects of external complaints e.g. noise, odour etc in consultation with the wider team and external specialists.
- Take a lead role in identifying the requirements for and development of internal technical procedures and processes relating to environmental audits and incident response.
- Undertaking environmental audits as required, participate in and learn from knowledge sharing exercises with colleagues and collaborate and coordinate with other teams across ESB Networks to successfully deliver projects in a timely manner
- Take a lead role in preparation of tender documentation (specifications, evaluations report etc.) for various contracts and framework drawdowns which engage contractors to undertake various environmental studies, assessments, reports, surveys etc.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- Extensive knowledge of the environmental regulatory requirements and industry best practice approaches within Ireland and the EU in relation to ESB Networks construction and operational works.
- Knowledge of ESB Networks key environmental responsibilities set out in standards, guides, procedures etc. and experience in undertaking environmental audits at construction and/or operational sites.
- Ability to identify environmental requirements, obligations and to initiate necessary work with limited oversight to deliver effective and robust outcomes for ESB Networks.
- Demonstrate ability to coordinate, contribute, lead or project manage on a range of environmental tasks or projects in a timely manner.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct efficient decision making and problem solving in collaboration with other key stakeholders.
- A professional manner with strong inter-personal skills, with an ability to communicate at all levels and deliver high performance results.
- A flexible approach to work, especially where necessary to deliver on project requirements.
- Demonstrate excellent communication and technical report writing skills and strong attention to detail.
- A 3rd Level qualification or equivalent work experience is essential
Location
This position is a national role. Nationwide travel will be a feature of this role.

The successful candidate may combine remote / smart working within the jurisdiction, with attendance at base for in-person collaboration, the frequency of which is agreed with the manager and subject to ongoing review.

Salary
€57,000 - €68,000 per annum.
