Waste Management Specialist
Position Description
ESB Networks owns and operates the electricity distribution system operator in Ireland. We are responsible for maintaining and developing electricity network infrastructure to support all electricity customers and play a key role in enabling the delivery of critical national policies relating to housing, economic development and climate change. Our Networks for Net Zero Strategy sets out our ambition to achieve a net zero ready electricity network by 2040.
The ESB Networks Sustainability & Environment team aims to provide sustainable leadership and environmental assurance across all aspects of ESB Networks’ business, while promoting and enabling a culture of sustainability throughout the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote a circular economy approach to minimise waste and promote a sustainable use of ESB networks assets in line with the government Climate Action Plan.
- Improve performance in the recycling and waste management area. Promote re-use of materials and propose new re-use opportunities.
- Support the implementation and management of business plans and policies essential to the organisation.
- Manage contracts to ensure they operate effectively and that all commercial aspects are handled appropriately.
- Scheduling for all scrap oil filled equipment from Depots, Station, Contractor sites nationwide with no loss of service.
- Assist with EMS certification, internal and external audits, ISO14005 Environment Management System. Act as interface with auditors during the auditing process.
- Engagement on waste hierarchy/recycling and compliant disposal of waste with all stakeholders. Ensure that the regulations around waste movement are strictly adhered to and interact with external regulatory bodies to ensure that this occurs.
- Maintain ongoing engagement with all business units and E&MP, conduct collection audits of our service waste contractors, and carry out biannual reviews of sort process audit findings.
- Assist with the submission of monthly data for senior management / CRU reports.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- 3rd level engineering / environmental qualification or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
- Excellent stakeholder management experience.
- Proven ability to implement and manage of business plans and policies.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce data driven reports for use by Senior Management.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Commercial acumen.
- Full clean EU driving licence. Travel will be required.
Desirable
- Experience of managing contractors.
- Knowledge of EMS, internal and external audits, ISO14005 Environment Management System.
Location
The role will be based in the southern half of the Republic of Ireland, with the specific location to be agreed in consultation with the successful candidate. Nationwide travel may be required on an intermittent basis.

Salary
€59,000 - €70,000 per annum
