Join the Planning & Environmental Group within Engineering & Major Projects, where we provide a broad range of environmental and planning services for ESB Group including the design, construction and operation & maintenance phases of onshore and offshore electricity infrastructure projects in Ireland and overseas.

We are looking for an experienced Environmental Consultant to join us on our journey to a Brighter Future. We have both onshore and offshore opportunities available.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Responsibilities will cover the items below:

 

  • Take ownership and responsibility for requirements and project managing all environmental related workstreams on projects including: 
    • EIAR coordination, environmental studies and surveys for planning consent applications.  
    • Environmental obligations post consent (e.g. during construction) 
  • Find solutions to technical environmental consenting issues, with limited oversight and advise multi-disciplinary project teams on technical matters at a strategic level.
  • Manage, collaborate and coordinate with other teams across ESB to successfully deliver projects in a timely manner.
  • Lead consultations with key external stakeholders and statutory authorities as required on projects. 
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of relevant environmental regulatory requirements for ESB development projects especially in areas of new technologies like offshore wind. 
  • Lead various feasibility and screening studies for sites as required by ESB. 
  • Manage environmental and technical consultants and review technical reports. 

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential 

 

The successful candidate must have: 

 

  • Minimum 7 years experience in the area of Environmental Impact Assessment.
  • A proven track record of successfully coordinating, project managing and co-authoring large EIAR projects.
  • In depth knowledge and experience of the consenting process of major developments (e.g. Strategic Infrastructure Development Act, Environmental Impact Assessment process and assessment under the EU Habitats Directive process).
  • A strong understanding of the environmental regulatory requirements within Ireland related to consenting of major infrastructure projects. 
  • A professional manner with strong inter-personal skills, with an ability to communicate at all levels and deliver high performance results. 
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and proven track record of managing internal and external stakeholders and leading successful public consultations. 
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct efficient decision making and problem solving in collaboration with other key stakeholders. 
  • Strong organisational and structured approach to project management and commercial aspects of projects. 
  • A flexible approach to work, especially where necessary to deliver on project requirements. 

 

Desirable 

 

  • Experience of environmental regulatory requirements in the UK. 
  • A proven track record of delivering environmental consent requirements for significant projects, including in the marine environment.
  • Experience and preparation of other consent applications (e.g. Industrial Emission (IE) Licencing and Marine Consents) and supporting studies and surveys as required.
  • Experience of consenting infrastructure projects in the marine environment in Ireland or the UK. 
  • Full drivers’ licence and access to a car. 

 

 

Qualifications

 

Essential 

 

  • Level 8 Environmental or Science Degree or equivalent qualification. 

 

Desirable 

 

  • Level 9 Engineering or Science Degree or equivalent qualification. 
  • Chartered status in a recognised professional institution 
  • Project Management qualification. 

 

 

Location

 

Your base will be at one of our offices situated at One Dublin Airport Central or Eastgate Cork.

Salary 

 

€65,000 to €76,000 per annum
