MAS Plant Inspection & Quality Specialist
Position Description
Engineering and Major Projects is the centre of engineering delivery within ESB.
The Generation Engineering department in ESB Engineering and Major Projects is the centre of engineering for ESB’s generation businesses and provides consultancy services in generation technology for external and international clients.
We currently have an opportunity for a Plant inspection Specialist to join our Generation Engineering team. The successful candidate will support ESB in the delivery of Generation projects (Thermal, Renewables & Distributed Generation) in both new build and the existing plant portfolio and will also support the ESB International business.
Key Responsibilities
- Duties will include the condition assessment of mechanical equipment throughout ESB, both in Ireland and UK, utilising non-destructive techniques and metallurgical testing.
- Assisting with failure investigations and root cause analysis.
- Laboratory based metallurgical testing and preparation.
- Team working with management, staff and external contractors is a key feature.
- Supervision of contractors and project management will also be required.
- The candidate will be responsible for Quality assurance of inspection and welding activities throughout ESB.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- A full driving licence.
- At least 8 years of experience in inspecting power plants.
- S/he must also have several extra qualifications and certifications/accreditations that are internationally recognised for different methods – e.g. at least PCN level 2, or equivalent.
- S/he must have qualifications in radiation safety.
- S/he must be self-motivated, able to work on their own for long periods, proficient in IT and technical report writing. A high standard of customer service is required. This job involves a lot of travel and overnight stays.
Desirable
- Knowledge of the equipment utilised in power plants.
- Knowledge of metallurgy and failure mechanisms
- A level 3 qualification or equivalent and a programme of continuing professional development.
Location
- Based in ESB Engineering and Major Projects Little Island, Cork Ireland.
- Tailored smart working arrangements are feasible and will be positively considered within the operational requirements of the role.
- Domestic and International travel are a key feature of this role.

Salary
€57,000 to €68,000 per annum
